  • Battle of Lexington and Concord (true event)

    British troops are sent to confiscate the colonies weapons. While they are doing this, they run into an angry militia. The militia defeats 700 British soldiers.
  • Sam and Father fight

    Sam is arguing with Father about letting him join the war. Father does not want Sam to go into the war because Father is a Loyalist, while Sam is a Patriot.
  • Sam comes home

    Sam came home and told the family and Mr. Heron about the Battle of Lexington and Concord. He also told them that he was going to join the war.
  • Tim finds out that the Brown Bess is stolen

    Tim goes to visit Sam at Tom Warrup's hut to find Brown Bess under a blanket. Tim was angry at Sam because he told Sam not to steal the gun.
  • Battle of Fort Ticonderoga (true event)

    A group of Patriots lead by Ethan Allen captured Fort Ticonderoga.
  • The Battle of Bunker Hill (true event)

    British troops fought against the Rebels, and the British won.
  • The Patriots came for Father

    The Patriots came into the Tavern to take Brown Bess from Father. Father told them that Sam was on the Rebel's side and he took the weapon from him, but they didn't believe him and beat Father up.

    Father and Tim go down to Verplanks point to sell their cattle.

    The British troops came to Redding to have the people of Redding provide them with food and shelter.
  • Sybil Ludington (true event)

    Sybil Ludington rode from New York to Connecticut rallying her father’s militia.
  • The British raid Danbury (true event)

    The British destroyed everything in Danbury.
  • Mother and Tim find out Father is dead

    Mother and Tim find out that Father was put onto a British prison ship, died of a disease, and he has been dead for almost a month.
  • Spain declares war on Britain (true event)

    They became an ally to the Americans and teamed up to defeat the British.
  • The Battle of Yorktown (true event)

    This was the last major battle in the Revolutionary War.
  • Sam is exexuted

    Sam is executed because some people stole Mother and Tim's cattle and Sam tried to help catch them, but they caught him and now Sam got shot and died. Tim attended the execution because Sam would want someone there, and someone had to claim the body.
  • The French arrive (true event)

    The French arrive in Newport, Rhode Island to help the Americans.
  • Tim writes this book about Sam

    Tim wrote this book almost 47 years after Sam got executed.
