Born to Chief of the Shoshone Tribe

At the age of 12 she was captured by an enemy tribe ( Hidatsa Indians) and sold to a French trapper (Toussaint Charbonneau) who made her his wife.

In november of 1804 she was invited to be part of the Lewis and Clark expedition as a Shoshone interpreter.

In February of 1805 she gave birth to a son named Jean Baptiste Charbonneau.

During her trip west they encountered a group of shoshone indians. She discovered that the leader was her brother Cameahwait.
They traveled 8000 miles into the wilds of the Northwest and back. -
Died at Fort Manuel in what is now known as Kenel, South dakota in 1812.
