A spot where a member of the expedition becomes ill
sergeant Floyd became sick with what we think was a burst appendix. he was the first to get sick. And he wasn't even very far into the expidition.
Patrick Gass said in his journal, "This day sergeant Floyd became very sick and remained so all night. He was seized with a complaint somewhat like a violent cholick." -
A spot where the expedition experiences a causality
He was buried on the top of floyd bluff. they named it after Sergeant Floyd. sergeant Floyd became sick with what we think was a burst appendix.
William Clark wrote in his journal "Sergeant Floyd much weaker and no better. Serjeant Floyd as bad as he can be no pulse & nothing will Stay a moment on his Stomach or bowels." -
Experience with a Sioux Tribe
The expedition meats the Sioux Tribe close to what is now Yankton, South Dakota.
William Clark wrote in his journal "The Souex is a Stout bold looking people, & well made, the greater part of them make use of Bows & arrows,".
Patrick Gass said in his journal, “After that ceremony was over they all sat in council. Captain Lewis and Captain Clarke made five of them chiefs, and gave them some small presents.” -
Experience at Fort Mandan
Fort Mandon was named after the Mandon Tribe. Christmas was celibrated here in 1804. the Fort was considerd complete on the 24.
Patrick Gass wrote "The morning was ushered in by two discharges of a swivel, and a round of small arms by the whole corps. Captain Clarke then presented to each man a glass of brandy, and we hoisted the American flag in the garrison, and its first waving in fort Mandan was celebrated with another glass.--The men then cleared out one of the rooms and commenced dancing." -
A spot where a baby is born
Sacagawea gave birth to a baby boy that she named Jean Baptiste.
Meriwether Lewis wrote in his journal "about five Oclock this evening one of the wives of Charbono was delivered of a fine boy. Mr. Jessome informed me that he had freequently admininstered a small portion of the rattle of the rattle-snake....that of hastening the birth of the child" -
A spot where an animal profoundly affected the expedition
This was the first encounter of a grizzily that big, the grizzily bear took a couple of shoots to kill.
Meriwether Lewis wrote in his journal "the other after my firing on him pursued me seventy or eighty yards, but fortunately had been so badly wounded that he was unable to pursue so closely as to prevent my charging my gun; we again repeated our fir[e] and killed him." -
Experience with the Shoshone Tribe
The Shoshone Tribe help lewis get horses.
Sacagawea turned out to be the chief’s sister.
Lewis said in his journal "I soon obtained three very good horses. for which I gave an uniform coat, a pair of legings, a few handkerchiefs, three knives and some other small articles the whole of which did not cost more than about 20$ in the U' States."

lewis traded with the Shoshone Tribe for some horses. Sacagawea was reunited with her family. -

horses were needed to cross the bitteroot mountains so lewis traded with the Shoshone Tribe for some horses. lewis didn't spend to much on the horses. though the indians seemed to like the trade. -

At fort clatsop it rained a lot. Because it is about 2-4 miles from the ocean. In what is now oregon.
John Ordway wrote in his journal, "hard rain as usal. we finished covering our huts and made fires in them. Some of the men moved in them this evening." -
Fort Clatsop
fort clatsop was finaly finished 12/25/1805. though most the time it rains there. fort clatsop is in what is now oregon only about 2-4 miles from the ocean.
William Clark wrote "at day light this morning we we[re] awoke by the discharge of the fire arm[s] of all our party & a Selute, Shouts and a Song which the whole party joined in under our windows, after which they retired to their rooms were chearfull all the morning. -
An incident where someone from the expedition killed a person from a native tribe.
R. Fields was on watch and laid his gun down and an indian came behind him and tryed to take it. there was a couple indians that came to try and take there guns. One Indian was stabbed by R. Fields and the another was shot by Lewis. The Indean that lewis shoot took a shoot at Lewis before he hid, but missed by inches.
lewis wrote in his journal "he overshot me, being bearheaded I felt the wind of his bullet very distinctly."
