Shamil Baseyev
Shamil Baseyev’s view as a terrorist began in 1991. During the 1994 war, he became the head of the Chechen rebels when he hijacked a Russian’s plan. The most ferocious attack he had was a raid in a school in Beslan that killed 331 people. Over half of them were children. He was killed in July, 2006. -
Reason Russia and Chechnya
Soviet Union In 1991, the Soviet Union broke apart. The Soviet Union was the name for Russia before 1991 and 1992. Chechnya, member of the Soviet Union, wanted independence when they broke apart. President Yeltsin sent out military force, but it had little impact. -
Peace agreement
2 years later,in 1996, because the losses for Russia were significant, there was a peace agreement between them. This granted Chechnya a separate state. -
Violence
A feel of what was happening After the attempt made many times by the Chechen militia to bomb or destroy Russia, the Russians went back to Chechnya in 1999. Russians were violent. This violence caused criticism. The president Yeltsin said that this violence was needed to stop the Chechens. He said this, “You have no right to criticize Russia for Chechnya. We are obliged to put an end to the spread of the cancer of terrorism." -
Amnesty Program
In July of 2006, Russia and Ramzan Kadyrov promoted an amnesty program. This program was for militants to say if they committed a crime and they wouldn’t be prosecuted. The militants had until January of 2007. 500 militants signed up for the program. -

How the Russians attacked Chechen terrorists By 2008, Russia was stabilized. Militants continued attacking Russia, but the attacks were small and they were not after each other. They were over periods of time. -
Violence
In June 2008, Russia was responsible for the violation of human rights in Chechnya. Russia tortured them and enforced disappearances. Russia is a very violent country. -
Terrorism Operation
On April 16, 2009, the Russian government ended the counter- terrorism operation. This operation was against separatist rebels in Southern Chechnya. -
Chechnya, Grozny
On August 21, 2011, there was a triple suicide bomb attack in the capital of Chechnya, Grozny. Six police officers and two other people were killed in this attack. -
Conflicts grew
After 3 years, in 1994, The conflicts grew between Russia and the Chechen Militia.They went to war.They fought for 2 years when Russians went to Chechnya in December 1994. Many Russian people died.
