Bloody Sunday Massacre
There was a series of strikes detonating throughout the city of St. Petersburg or Petrograd, where the peaceful march turned violent when the military was called in. This resulted in the deaths of over a hundred civilians and hundreds were wounded fatally. -
Russia into World War l
Russia was not prepared to enter into a war as its military was not organized or properly equipped for the conditions it would face ahead. The economy around Russia including food and employment shortages had an enormous impact on the people. -
February Revolution
This was the first of the two revolutions that occurred in 1917. During these events, the monarchy was overthrown and a provisional government was put into power. -

During October 24/25th (Julian Calendar), the Bolshevik party and leader Vladimir Lenin led an almost peaceful protest against the Dumas and the provisional government. -
Brest-Litovsk Treaty
In the city of Brest-Litovsk, which is located in Belarus, Russia, is where a treaty was signed with Germany, Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria. The purpose of this agreement was to put an end to Russia's activity in World War l. -
Red Terror
The Bolshevik government committed mass arrests and killings. There are estimates that roughly 100,000 people were executed, but there was no official record totalled. After a failed assassination attempt on Lenin, 512 representatives were shot. Lenin thought this would bring an end to the revolution. -

The creation of the U.S.S.R became the replacement which followed the Russian Empire, the rule under a Tsarist and autocratic government, and the 1917 revolutions. -
Josef/Joseph Stalin
Stalin was the dictator of the USSR from 1929 - 1953. He transformed his country from a meager society to a military and political powerhouse. He did this through extreme terror and the deaths and encampment of millions from his own country.
