Decembrist Revolt
-Liberal rebels felt threatened by Tsar Nicholas' conservative views.
-They wanted a free Russian state and thought that Nicholas didn't deserve the throne.
-As a result Tsar Nicholas made new regulations that restricted the liberal movement in Russia. -
Emancipation of serfs
-there was emancipation of serfs on private estates and domestic household serfs.
-it gave more than 23 million people freedom and liberty.
-it gave all serfs the rights of every other person in the country. -
Revolution of 1905
-People in Russia were tired of working the regular 11 hour work day.
-They set up a petition to dispute the work day.
-This led to Bloody Sunday which was a consequence of this event. -
Bloody Sunday
-It started out as a peaceful strike, with a preacher leading the protest.
-They sang hymns and did religious prayers to try and present a petition to Tsar Nicholas II.
-the Tsar didn't like this and ordered the Imperial Army to take care of them, there were about 96 killed and 300 injured. -
Russia Enters WWI
-Russia was an ally of Serbia, and Austria declared war on them and forced Russia to help Serbia.
-They entered the War with the largest army in the world.
-Many of the soldiers were serfs, no middle or high class were involved. -
Rasputin Murdered
-Stayed with the royal family most of their lives, he was the only person who could stop the bleeding because of their hemophilia.
-Rasputin took very long to murder, it took poison, a stabbing, and a drowning for him to die.
-Rasputin helped to discredit the tsarist government. -
March Revolution
-Started when 90000 textile workers went on strike because of their shortage of fuel and bread.
-This went on during WWI, and many people joined the cause, it ended up with around 400000 people on strike.
-Protesting was banned and the Czar had his army sent out to shoot the protesters. -
Tsar Nicholas II abdicates
-World War I and many of his people starving led to Tsar Nicholas having to abdicate.
-Many people put the blame on him because of poor decisions.
-Eventually his family and him were killed and the Bolsheviks came to power. -
Bolshevik Revolution
-the uprising started after 11 million peasants were sent into World War I the Russian people were mad about the losses and injuries that they sustained.
-On Nov. 6-7 the Red Guard was ordered to come in and take over the state banks, telegraph offices, and electic plant.
-The revolution started and the Soviets were now led by the Bolsheviks, which had all of the power in the country and controled everything. -
Murder of Romanovs
-His whole family was put on house arrest after Nicholas' abdication.
-Nicholas was in the way of Lenin's power because technically he was still the ruler of Russia.
-The civil war developed and Lenin ordered his troops to kill the family, a son and daughter's body were never found. -
Treaty of Versailles
-Was one of the peace treaties signed at the end of WWII, this one ended the state of war between Germany and the Allied Powers.
-Said that Germany took the responsability for starting the war and that they would pay war reperations.
-This led to complications that started WWII
-This led to conflicts and continued tension between countries who were involved. -
Lenin Dies/USSR formed
-Lenin was the leader of the Soviet Communist Party and created the USSR.
-After the death of Lenin, Stalin took over and led the party.
-Formation was because they wanted a more centralized and united government. -
Stalin Takes Power/Death of Trotsky
-After Lenin's death many people fought to lead the party.
-Trosky and Stalin were the top 2 men for the job.
-Lenin wanted Trosky to lead but Stalin had more power in government already, Stalin tried to order Trosky out of the government, but he didn't go, Stalin ended up winning after Trosky's death.
