Revolutionary Movement Grows
The Russian Maxists was separated into two groups, one group supported a broad base the revolution. The other group supported a small amount of the revolution and wanted to sacrifice everything for change. This was the start of the different political views which would lead to major conflicts in the future. -
Russo-Japanese War
Russia and Japan signed a Treaty to stop fighting over Korea and Manchuria. Russia ended up breaking the Treaty and in February of 1904 Japan attacked Russia at the ports in Manchuria. This event started the spark of the Revolution. -
Bloody Sunday
200,000 workers and their families went on strike and approached the Czar's Winter Palace with a petition asking for better working conditions, more personal freedoms, and an elected national legislature. Nicholas II had his guards shoot and killed hundreds of people and wounded 1,000 more. This lead to people realizing that it wasn't ok for the government to be run like that, and was the first of many more strikes and conflicts to come. -
Rasputin Murder
After Nicholas II went to the war front his wife took over the government for the time being. During that time she started relying on Rasputin to make decisions and some nobles feared his role in the government and murdered him. This event was one of the ways the people of Russia started to take action towards changing there government and what they disagreed with. -
Bolshevik Revolution
In the fall of 1917 factory workers armed themselves and gave themselves the name of the Bolshevik Red Guard. That Day they took over the Russian Government. -
Lenin Returns to Russia
Lenin returned to Russia after many years of exile. He traveled in a sealed railway car until he arrived to Petrograd. This effected Russian War efforts against Germany because it made Russia uneasy. -
The Czar Steps down
Czar Nicholas II left the throne due to all the uprisings. A provisional government was formed, but it didn't exceed the expectations of the citizens and most of them followed the soviets more than the actual government. This was a major contribution on how the government lost even more support and it went to the soviets instead of them. -
Civil War
The White Army faced the Red Guard in a civil war that lasted two years and several Western Nations including the U.S sent troops to help throughout the war but it did bare minimum. In the end 14 million died in the course of three years and the Red army won. This was the results of the overthrow of the government. -
New Economic Policy
Lenin established the NEP which was a small-scale version of capitalism. The NEP balanced the involvement of the government in businesses but also let small businesses run themselves. This helped the slow recovery of the country after the civil wars. -
Stalin Takes Over
After Lenin passes away in 1924, Joseph Stalin took his position as head of government after slowly making his way up. In 1928 he was in total command of the Communist Party. This was another event that somewhat lead to a revolution as some people were uneasy with his command.
