Bloody Sunday Massacre
On January 22 1905 there was a group of protesters marched to the czar's winter palace to make demands and a group of officers opened fire on them. This killed up to 200 people and was later known as Bloody Sunday. Strikes and riots broke out threw out the country which lead to Nicholas promising a formation of soldiers called the dumas. This was one of the key events to start the revolution. -
Russia Enters World War 1
On July 28 1914 Russia entered world war 1 and entered the conflict with lots of confidence about its own military capacity. There was a massive economic impact as well. The biggest impact had to be the food shortages as they took farmers to fight in the war. -
February Revolution
The February Revolution was the first of two revolutions. In this revolution, the monarchy was overthrown and a provisional government was put into leadership. -
October Revolution
On October 24th and 25th on the Julian calendars, Bolshevik leader Vladimir Lenin and a group of leftist revolutionaries set to place a nearly bloodless protest against the Dumas provisional Government. -
Brest-Litovsk Treaty
On March 3 1918 in the city of Brest Litovsk Located in Belarus Russia signed a treaty with Germany, Austria-Hungary, Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria. The agreement of this treaty was to end Russia's Involvement in World War 1. -
Beginning of The Red Terror
The Red Terror started on August 30th, 1918 and ended around October 1918. During the Red Terror, the Bolshevik government participated in mass arrests and killings. Google estimates that there were roughly 100,000 people executed but there is no official total. What started the Terror was after a failed assassination attempt on Lenin, 512 representatives of the upper classes were shot dead by the Bolsheviks. The purpose of the Red Terror was that Lenin thought that it would end the revolution. -
Creation of the Soviet Union
The creation of Soviet Union or the U.S.S.R (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) was created by area the world's largest country as well as one of the most diverse countries as well. The U.S.S.R become the replacment to the Russian Empire following the years of tsars and the 1917 revolution. -
Stalin Takes Over
Joseph Stalin Born in 1878 was the dictator of the soviet union from 1929 till the year he died in 1953. Stalin Transformed the Soviet Union from being a peasant society into a military powerhouse. He did however rule by terror so millions of his own died during his reign.
