The Decembrist Revolt took place in December 1825. It was the first of many revolutions. The revolution started when Alexander the first was killed. The middle class became very upset and revolted against the government. -
Nicholas Becomes the Czar of Russia
Nicholas the II was crowned czar of Russia. He later became known as the last czar of Russia. Nicholas was not trained to be the next czar of Russia. He didn't even want to be the czar. -

Russo-Japanese War
Russia declared war on Japan over Manchuria and Korea. Russia wanted a warm water port on. the Mediterranean Sea. In the end, Japan won the war and Russia was not able to gain another warm water port. the people of Russia became very angry with Nicholas II because of how many people were killed over land. -
Bloody Sunday
It started as a peaceful protest lead by priest Georgy Apollonovich. The people who joined him were workers who wanted to ask Nicholas the II to meet their demands. Nicholas's troops started firing into the unarmed crowd killing 100 people. These actions caused Russians to become even more furious with Nicholas. -
World War One (Russian Involvement)
Since Germany declared war, Russia then gets involved with World War One. Russia did not have a very strong army, however, they did have a lot of people. Rasputin warned Nicholas the II not to go to war because Russia would be defeated very easily. Rasputin was correct, Russia lost the war. -
March Revolution
The March Revolution takes place because of the shortage of food. Workers riot and go on strike. This also happened because Nicholas II was not improving the economy and the dumas who were elected kept being fired. The people of Russia lost faith in their czar. -
Czar Nicholas II Abdicates Throne
The striking workers of Russia were protesting and wanted reform of the government. They wanted socialist reforms. Nicholas the II was then forced to abdicate his throne. He and his family were then taken to two different palaces. In July, the family was murdered in fear of people trying to rescue him. -
Russian Revolution Begins
Vladimir Lenin was elected chairman after the overthrow of the Provisional Government. The two largest groups who were vying for power were the Red Army and the White Army. The White Army did not want a dictatorship. The Red Army wanted to suppress the trade unions, disband the soviets, and give the people who initially owned the factories their factories back. -
The Creation of the U.S.S.R.
The U.S.S.R., or the Soviet Union, was the first country to based on Marxist socialism. Many countries became a part of the Soviet Union including present day Ukraine, Georgia, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. Each level of government was controlled by the Communist party. The land in the Soviet Union was divided into state-run collective farms. -
Vladimir Lenin Died
Vladimir Lenin died because of a brain hemorrhage when he was 54. He was the person responsible for the Bolshevik Revolution. Lenin was also the first leader of the Soviet Union. His body was embalmed and is on display in Moscow. Many people go to see his body each year.
