  • Russo Japanese War Begins

    Feud between the Japanese Empire and the Russian Empire about who got the land in Korea and Manchuria. Japanese launched a surprise attack against Russian ships on the night of February 8th, 1904.
  • Bloody Sunday

    Happened in St. Petersburg, Russia when a Priest named Georgy Apollonovich Gapon led workers to the Czar’s winter palace to protest and make their demands. Forces opened fire on the Priest and the workers, killing and injuring hundreds.
  • Russian Constitution

    Revision of the constitution written in 1832. Emperor Nicholas II agreed to share is power with a parliament.
  • Battle of Tannenberg

    FIght between Russia and Germany that took place between the 26th and 30th of August which was the first month of WWI. The German’s intercepted messages from Russian armies on August 26th and took the Russian Army led by General Aleksandr Samsonov by surprise. This battle took place near the village of Tannenberg and led to 50,000 Russian deaths and over 92,000 Russian soldiers taken as prisoners.
  • Russian Revolution of 1917

    Collapse of the Russian Empire led by Tsar Nicholas II and the rise of Lenin and the Bolsheviks. This sparked a new beginning of a new era in Russia.
  • Bolshevik Revolution

    Forces led by Vladimir llyich Lenin overthrew the provisional government of Alexander Kerensky after the provisional government came to power in March, 1917.
  • Treaty of Brest-Litovsk

    Treaty signed on March 3rd, 1918 by the Bolsheviks, who were now in power, and the Central Powers. This treaty took Russia out of World War I and was signed at a German-controlled Brest-Litovsk.
  • Battle Between Bolshevik's and the Whites

    Whites invade Crimea which is Soviet territory but the Bolshevik’s defeat them.
  • Kronstadt Rebellion

    Major unsuccessful rebellion against the Bolsheviks. Different citizens as well as soldiers and sailors rebelled against the Bolsheviks and Lenin. The rebellion was destroyed by the Red Army after a 12-day military campaign resulting in several thousand deaths.
  • Treaty on the Creation of the USSR

    Signed on December 30th, 1922. Created a new centralised federal government where the main functions took place in Moscow, Russia.
