Decembrist Revolt
Decembrists were people of the upper class who had military backgrounds. When Nicolas 1 was becoming the Czar the decemberists tried to get people to not follow him,as well as tried to get his brother Constantine accession instead. It did not work however and led to death and banishment. -

Nicholas ll Becomes Czar of Russia
Nicholas ll became the Czar of Russia in 1894. Right towards the beginning of his rule he got off to a bad start with the people of Russia when Russia went to war with Japan and due to losing so many battles and troops against them, he eventually had to submit. This caused Russia to lose more territory to the Japanese, as well as the many lives they lost in the process.Things only got worse when Bloody Sunday occurred, and his troops shot down at least 100 russian citizens. -
The Russo-Japanese War
Was based on the rivalry China and Russia had for the territory of Manchuria and and Korea. The war officially started with the attack of Japan on the on a Russian naval Squadron. Eventually after wearing down Russia’s military and resources, which was not very extensive compared to Japan, they came to the decision of making a peace-treaty and submitting to the Japanese. The treaty was named Treaty of Portsmouth, and Russia recognized Japan's full control. -
Bloody Sunday
this is an event that happened when workers in Russia who had been organizing themselves with the goal of more economic equality, marched to the Winter Palace to present their demands/requests for reform directly to the czar. However this goal was not quite reached because when they finally got to the palace, instead of peacefully speaking the Czar Nicholas, the chief of security ordered that the police fire on the protesters killing over 100 and wounding several hundred more. -
World War 1(Russian Involvement)
Russia went into the war with one of the biggest armies it has had, but by the end of the war period, they had suffered so many losses of life, and even more who came back wounded and hurt. Also, on economic standards, Russa was devastated. The cost for reconstruction for damage caused by the war, along with all the debt that went along with war costs. Russia went in strong, burt came out weak. -
The March Revolution
Workers in Russia were having many problems with finding enough food for them to eat due to the major shortage of money in their pockets. A group of them decided to go on strike and many joined the cause as time went on.Nicholas ll who was the Czar of the time, chose to believe that the problem would go away on its own, but it did not. As they got worse and worse Nicholas ordered the police to put a stop to it on March 10, but when they tried all that was created were deaths, and even more chaos -
Czar Nicholas 2 Abdicates the Throne
This ended the Czarist rule of Russia and led to the death of Nicholas ll and his family. A provisional government replaced the rule of the Czars and started a new type of government for the country of Russia -
Beginning of the Russian Civil War
The russian civil war began with a disagreement over the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk which lead to a split between the whites and reds in Russia. Following this, the “Cheka”(secret police) lead a campaign of terror to rid the country of non Bolshevik socialists and eventually making a full out war go on throughout Russia. The war left most of Russia in great ruin and resulted in more than 6 million russian deaths. In the end the Reds end up winning and taking over the government of a now new Russia. -
USSR is Created
It's also known as the Soviet Union and was the new government from after the Russian Empire. It consists of Russia, Belorussia, Ukraine, and the Transcaucasian Federation (divided in 1936 into the Georgian, Azerbaijan, and Armenian republics). -
Vladmir Lenin's Death
Earlier in his reign as dictator of Russia he survived an assassination attempt, of three bullets to his body. However later the assassination contributed to his own death, he died officially from a stroke which he got at age 53. Many people later mourned his death because while he was cruel he was also considered a good dictator.
