Decembrist Revolt
Nobles and soldiers tried to overthrow the Czar, who was Nicholas the First at the time. The people who revolted were trying to get a Consitutional Monacrchy. The uprising was not well planned and was quickly destoryed by Nicholas who killed 5 leaders and sent 100's of people to Siberia. This was later named the Decembrist Revolt because it took place in December. -
Nicholas II becomes Czar
Nicholas II became the czar after is father Czar Alexander III died. With little training in being a czar Nicholas had confessed to a friend that he did not wish to become czar and he did not know what he was doing. -
The Russo-Japanese War
The war was between the Russian Empire and the Japanese Empire over land. Nicholas the 2nd wanted to expand his land to Korea and Manchuria. Japan had been better prepared and had more industries than Russia. Within a year the war was over and the Japanese had won.This war would be another cause of future revolts. -
Bloody Sunday
Bloody Sunday was meant to be a peaceful walk of workers who wanted more freedom. Instead Nicholas the 2nd made soldiers protect him. The soliders opened fire on the marchers and many died. After this event Nicholas was referred to as Bloody Nicholas. -
World War 1
Although WW1 started in June, Russia did not join until August 1, 1914 after Germany declared was on them. Russia joined forces with Great Britian and France during this war. Russia did not come out successful in this war. Russian industries were not able to develop enough war supplies to meet the needs of the soldiers. Many of the soldiers were left without guns or ammunition in the middle of the war. Back home in Russia the economy was failing and many people died of starvation. -
The March Revolution
The people of Russia began starting riots and mraches because of what was happening during WW1. The people wanted Nicholas to surrender from the war and began their march. Nicholas ordered soliders to go out and restore order but the soldierrs joined the protestors. -
Nicolas the Second Abdicates Russian Throne
Many revolts had started again Czar Nicholas II. The people wanted more powers, freedoms, and land. The czar created a Duma after the Revolution of 1905 in hopes of lessening the peoples complaints but the people remained unhappy. The Duma did not given them what they asked for and this lead to another revolt in 1917. During this revolt the soldiers joined the protestors instead of protecting the Czar. This caused Nicholas to realize he'd lost the peoples loyalty and he abdicate the throne. -
Russian Civil War Began
The Russian Civil War was between the Red Army, who were the Communists, and the White Army, who were made up of the Americans, French, and British. The Communists gained popular support and won. -
U.S.S.R. Created
The U.S.S.R stands for the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. It was created by the Bolsheviks and led by Lenin and after his death Stalin took over. The USSR or SU for short was made up of 15 republics and the largest was Russia. -
Vladimir Lenin Death
Lenin set up the Bolshevik Revolution and was the first leader of the Soviet Union. After his death Stalin took up the roll of leader of the USSR.
