The Decembrist Revolt
Small numbers of nobles and army officers attempted to overthrow the czar's government, hoping for a contitutional monarchy. The riot was crushed immediately by Czar Nicholas I, known as the Decembrist Revolt, and he killed five leaders and sent hundreds to Siberia. This all made the czar very mad. He started becoming more strict and enforced opposing books, and the secret police. -
Czar Alexander II Emancipates the Serfs
In 1861 Alexander II freed the serfs. It is almost relatable to when the slaves were freed in America. 23 million serfs were freed when the Emancipation Manifesto was made to be. It alllowed serfs to buy the land from the lords. -
Nicholas II becomes czar of Russia
He took throne after his father died, but he didn't really want to be czar. He was more of a family man, but he did assume the throne. While he was in power he led Russia through many wars and was actually the last czar of Russia. -
The Russo-Japanese War
Nicholas II entered into another war againt the Japanese to gain more territory. They ended up losing the war. Part of the reason they lost is because they were not ready and prepared for the war. Japan's military was in much better shape. -
The Revolution of 1905
The Revolution of 1905 all started with Bloody Sunday. There was an upsriding against czar Nicholas II. The people are wanting the government to be a constitutional monarchy instead of an autocracy. -
Bloody Sunday
After Nicholas II entered Russia into the Russo-Japanese War, the people at home were having hard times. The Citizens protested against the lack of democracy and food shortages. Nicholas ordered his soldiers to shoot the protestors. 500 people were killed on this day. -

Czar Nicholas II led Russia into World War I unessecarilly. The Country was not nearly ready to go into war. Transportation and industries for supplies were not in good shape. The people at home were starving, and they all blamed the czar. -
Czar Nicholas II abdicates the Russian throne
Riots and strike were happening at Petrograd. Then, even the soldiers joined in on the rioting. So, Czar Nicholas II was basically required to give up his throne. That led to the family later on being held at Yekaterinburg Palace. -
The March Revolution
Petrograd was filled with protestors against the shortage of food. Even the soldiers joined in on the protest because they agreed with the people. Eventually Nicholas II abdicated, and the provisional government took over. -
Alexander Kerensky becomes leader of provisional government
After the czar abdicated the provisional government took over and Kerensky became leader. The provisional government allowed freedom of speech and religion. They were only a temporary govenment, they later became overthrown by the Bolsheviks. -
The Russian Civil War begins
A war between the Bolsheviks and the opposders took place. The red army was againsrt the white army. The red army consisted of the the communists and the white army included the Untied States, British, and French. Trotsky and Lenin led the Red army to power and they won against the Whites. -
Vladimir Lenin and the Bolsheviks capture the Winter Palace
The Bolsheviks overthrew the provisional government, wanting to turn Russia into a full communist country. Vladmir Lenin led the Bolsheviks to take over the Winter Palace. Though only 10 people were killed, it was stilll enough to bring the Bolsheviks to power. -
Nicholas II and his family are executed
The family was being held as prisoners after being taken to Siberia. One day the family thought they were just getting a family picture taken. Turns out, the actually executred the czar and his family by shooting them. -
Lenin dies and Joseph Stalin is leader of the Soviet Union
Lenin died with his vision of communism still m=in mind. Joseph Stalin took power after getting rid of any rivals to his leadership. He exiled Trotsky and punished other enemies. Stalin would become leader for many years causing many large problems to the Soviet Union with his brutal acts.
