Ivan IV ruled from 1533-1584. He changed his medieval state to an empire and expanded his territory to almost one billion acres. -

Michael ruled from 1613-1645. He established the Romanov dynasty, but it did not last very long. Also, his royal family last for 304 years which is the longest any family has ruled in Russia. -

Peter I ruled from 1682-1725. Russia expanded into Siberia and to the Bering Sea during his reign. Last, he tried to westernize Russia, but he failed. -
Catherine II
Catherine II ruled from 1762-1796. She was the longest-ruling female leader of Russia. Russia continued to grow under her rule, and it was recognized as one of the great powers of Europe. -
Alexander II
Alexander II ruled from 1855-1881. He was the emperor of the Russian empire, King of Poland, and the Grand Duke of Finland. However, he was assassinated in 1881. -
Nicholas II
Nicholas II ruled from 1894-1917. He was the last emperor of Russia, Grand Prince of Finland, and King of Poland. Russia was defeated in the Russo-Japanese War under his rule. -

Vladimir Lenin
Vladimir Lenin was in office from 1922-1924. He fought to establish control of Russia in the Russian Civil War as leader of the Bolshevik party. -

Krushchev was in office from 1953-1964. He was the first secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. Khrushchev was a part of the negotiating with the U.S. over the Cuban Missile Crisis. -
Mikhail Gorbachev
Gorbachev was in office from 1988-1991. He was the head of state of the Soviet Union. His conferences with President Ronald Reagan contributed to the end of the Cold War. -
Borris Yeltsin
Yeltsin was in office from 1991-1999. He was the 1st President of the Russian Federation. Last, he was one of Gorbachev's most pwerful political opponents. -
Vladimir Putin
He is serving as the second President of the Russian Federation and is the current Prime Minister of Russia. -
Dmitri Medvedev
He is currently serving as the thrid President of the Russian Federation. -
Grand Prince Vladimir of Kiev
He ruled from 980-1015. Kiev became the center of Slavic culture and power in Europe. He converted to Christianity in 987 AD and baptised all of Kievan Rus'.
