Decembrist Revolt
The Decembrist Revolt was a protest of the rising of the Czar. Nicholas I was not very popular. 3,000 protesters refused to leave. Nicholas I ordered his soliders to start fire. Many people were killed. This led to the revolution in 1917. -
Nicholas II becomes Czar
Nicholas II became the Czar after his father died. Many people did not like him. This led to his abdication of the throne. He was the last Czar of Russia. -
Russo-Japanese War
MIlitary conflict between Russia and Japan. Japan won the war. Japan forced Russia to abandon their expansion policy. This was the first Asian power to defeat a European power. This showed that Nicholas II was losing power. People started to demand more freedom. -
Bloody Sunday
Massacre in St. Petersburg, Russia. People fought for economic equaility. Many killed and wounded. This was the new beginning in Russia. This was the start of a violent phase. This led to the revolution in 1905. -
World War I (Russian Involvement)
Russia joined in WWI. They entered the war with the largest army. They went to war without having enough weapons and food for their soldiers. Four years later Germany and Russia agreed to peace. -
March Revolution
Workers were not happy with how things were going. They started a revolution and demanded for things to changed. Some workers demanded and increase in their wage so they could afford to buy food. During this time there were many riots and lots of people were killed. This led to the decision to no longer have a Czar. -
Czar Nicholas II abdicated the throne
Uprisinng in Petrograd. Army joins striking workers and the Czar was forced to give up the throne. Czar Nicholas II was later arrested by soviets. -
Russian Civil War
The Civil War was caused from a disagreement in the treatyy. Russia was split into two section, the Bolsheviks and the Mensheviks. The cheka (Police) led campaign to end the country of non-bolsheviks. The Bolsheviks won the war. More than 6 million people died and Russia expanded. -
Creation of U.S.S.R.
The U.S.S.R combined different regions into the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic. This made Russia the most powerful and largest republic. -
Lenin's Death
In 1924 Lenin died from brain trauma. He died at age 54. He was a devoted leader in Russia. Before he died he showed his alarm for Stalin. He realized how bad the commuist government was and that Stalin would not help.
