200,000 Workers marched to the Tsar's Winter Palace in St. Petersburg, carrying a petiton to improve working and living conditions, ending the war with Japan, and other reforms. They were led by Father Gapon, a priest who felt for the workers. the marchers were shot down by the soldiers and police guarding the palace. 500 marchers killed, thousands more injured.
