    The Great Ivan III

    Won most of Russias land through conquest or voluntary allegiance. He also re-won the Ukraine. Created the foundation for the current Russian state. 1462-1505

    Ivan IV (The Terrible)

    1533-1584 He was the first tsar of Russia. He was well known for creating a centralize government and for aquiring a lot of land. He also reformed the tax-collection system and introduced sel-government.
  • Micheal Romanov (Micheal I)

    1613-1645 Founder of the Romanov dynasty. Election ended the Time of Troubles, a time of interna disorder, foreign invasion and rapid succession of rulers.
  • Peter I (The Great)

    1682-1696 Peter ruled joitly with his half-brother. They focused on the development of science and hired experts to educate the people. Tried to mirror western culture and established the first wide-spread Russian newspaper. He won territory in Estonia and Latvia

    1762-1796 Catherine was the most well renowned and the longest ruling empress. Originally married Peter III but then consipered with a lover to get rid of him
  • Napoleon's Invasion of Russia

    Europe was under the control of Napoleon and they rebelled on the day of his fatal Russian campaign.

    1855-1881 Alexander was well known for freeing the lower class people who previously had almost no rights. He gave them the right to marry and own land. He also signed a treaty with China and ended a Polish uprising.

    This war was caused by Russians who refused to divide North Korea with Japan and as a result, a year long war developed and claimed thousands of lives.
  • Alexander Kerensky

    In 1905, Alexander Kerensky joined the Socialist Revolutionary Party of the Soviet Union. He became the Minister of War in 1917.

    It became Russia's offical political party until August 29th, 1991. They were the first to establish a scialist state.

    This plan was to aimed to help improve the development of iron, steel, machine tools, electric power and transportation. He hoped tis would improve their work force and economy.

    The Cold War devastated the Russian economy, it was a no contact war between the Western World and Communist world, and after it was over reconstuction took place in Russia and resulted in a peaceful revolution.

    The Soviet Union formed an agreement with Cuba to set up missile launching sites in China. This gave the Soviet Union an advantage against teh US incase the US ever attacked the Soviet Union.
  • Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan

    During the Soviet invasion, the Soviets supported the Afghan communists in the Civil War agains the Muslim guerrillas. In the end, 15,000 Russians were killed and 37,000 were wounded; this contributed to the fall of the USSR.

    They were taking a step away from their original government before 1991. Their new democracy represents teh working class who then elects workers' councils to represent them.

    In 1991 Chechnya declared independence from Russia, but in 1993 Russian troops were sent to restablish authority. The people of Chechnya refused and they have been committing terroristic acts in Russia and vise versa since the catastrophy happened.

    In 1999, Vladmir Putin was pushed into presidency due to the resignation of the former presedent. He then ran again in 2004 and won.

    Dimitri Medvedev is the current Russian president. He was elected in 2008 following Vladmir Putin.

    Georgia was launching a major military offense again South Ossetia and Russia intervened because they have been fighting for that land too.
