  • Nicolas II crowned

    Nicolas II crowned
    Nicolas II and his wife Alexandra became the last Tsar and Tsarina of Russia. They were crowned in the Ouspensky Cathedral in Moscow. When their son became sick with haemophilia, they convinced Gregory Rasputin, a great healer from Siberia to help keep him stable. As Rasputin stayed longer and longer, he came to have quite a bit of influence on Tsarina Alexandra and often helped her with difficult decisions. Because of this, the peasants viewed him as everything wrong with the government.

    Russo-Japanese War

    After the Treaty of Versailles, Japan lost many of their colonies and Russia wanted to expand their empire. When Russia tried to take Japan's colonies, the Japanese put out a fleet of war ships. The Japanese won and they forced Russia to stop their expansionist policy in the far East.
  • Revolution of 1905

    Revolution of 1905
    Political and social tension partialy aimed at the government. Led to soldiers imunity and workers on strike. Shortly after, Trotsky was exiled to Siberia by Lenin, founder of Bolshevik party. The Duma was later formed by the tsar during his October Manifesto where they helped the tsar make decisions.
  • Bloody Sunday

    Bloody Sunday
    Massacre in St. Petersburg, Russia that marked the beginning of violence. Unarmed demonstartors led by father Georgy Gapon and were shot by tsar's forces at The Orthodox Church as they marched torward the Winter Palace.
  • Soldier's Mutiny

    Soldier's Mutiny
    Over 80,000 troops mutinied and engaged in nation wide lotting and revolution, leaving police officers and the government no protection.

    Revolution

    Red and White army face eachother in terms of getting a new government. The Reds were the Bolsheviks and Mensheviks led by Lenin. against The Whites who were the anti revolutionaries who still agreed with the tsar. The Reds ended up winning. Lenin eventually died and Stalin succeeded him and became the General Secretary of the Communist Party.
  • March Revolution

    March Revolution
    Cold winter with both feul shortages and food shortages making peasants angry. The immediate result was the abdication or renouncment of tsar Nicolas II.
  • October Revolution

    October Revolution
    Lenin and the peasants or otherwise known as Bolsheviks went to war with slogans; "end the war," "all land to the peasants," and "all power to the soviets." The Soviets heavily supported the Bolsheviks. Vladmire Lenin described the Bolsheviks as "vangard of the proletariat." When the Bolsheviks attacked, they overthrew the second Prime Minister, Alexander Kerensky.
  • Treaty of Brest-Litovsk

    Treaty of Brest-Litovsk
    Russia dropped out of World War 1 due to too many casualties and how expensive it was. It also forced Russia to give up some land and resources to Germany, which made it even harder for the Alies to defeat the Central Powers.
  • USSR formed

    USSR formed
    Lasted until 1991. The Bolsheviks overthrew the provisional government and created the USSR.
