Roman History Timeline

  • 753 BCE

753 bc Romulus founds Rome and becomes its first king According to myth Romulus and Remus were orphaned infants that found Rome.

They were found in Rome and were raised by a she-wolf Lupa and a shepherd. The twins Romulus and Remus were the sons of Rhea and King Numitor, and another legend states that they were born of Mars and the Vestal Virgin Silvia. They were ordered to be drowned in the Tiber so they would not threaten the title of king Amulius who was Numitors younger brother. The twins survived and later fought each other over who would rule what was later to be Rome. Romulus killed Remus and Rome was created.
