Cenozoic Era from 70-2 million years ago
Tertiary period~ 70- 2 million years ago
Paleocene- Eocene- Oligocene- Miocene- Pliocene periods defined by the Laramide orogeny, the huge tectonic activity from the last period created the modern rockies. The subduction of the oceanic crust is creating the magma to come up, cooling and reshaping the continental crust. The Rocky Mountains were born! -

Cenozoic Era form 2 million years ago to today
Quaternary period
Pleistocene- Holocene periods began about 2 million years ago with the Ice Age. The Ice Age lead to the Bull lake Glaciation and Pinedale Glaciation 180,000- 10,000 years ago. The glaciers dramatically carved and reshaped the Rocky Mountains as we see them today. -
250
Mesozoic Era~ 250-70 million years
Triassic~ Relatively little tectonic activity
Jurassic- Cretaceous~ From 170-70 million years ago continental crust raised up from subducting oceanic plates. Earth is still mostly covered with water. Ancestral Rockies still eroding. -

Paleozoic Era 500- 250 million years ago
Cambrian~Characterized by shallow rocky areas mostly filled by water Ordovician~ Characterized by shallow rocky areas mostly filled by water Silurian~Characterized by shallow rocky areas mostly filled by water Devonian~Characterized by shallow rocky areas mostly filled by water Carboniferous~ Pennsylvanian Mississippian periods. The rising of the ancestral Rocky mountains created by tectonic activity. Perian~ Period of mountain erosion.
