  • Mayflower Compact

    Mayflower Compact
    a. It first acknowledged the colonists' loyalty to King James I. Then, it bounded them in a "Civil Body Politick" for the purpose of forming just laws for the entire community. This document established a social contract within the community and formed a goverment based upon the consent of the governed. Therefore, they taxed the colonies. The King then pronounced that the colonies had to stop making settlements in and beyond the Appalachian Mountains. Later, he made The Proclaimation of 1763 which futher angered the colonists.
