    The Magna Carta

    The Magna Carta was a charter made to limit the power of the king and protect the the priveleges of the people. the document was created and signed by the kings barons and was signed by king john in the Runnymede meadows. The Magna Carta include that no free man can be punished except through the law of the land. or no one could be sold (slavery).
  • Mayflower Compact

    The compact was created and signed aboard the mayflower while it was waiting off the coast of plymouth. The compact was an agreement for a majoriety based goverment and everyone pledged alliagence to the king.
  • Petition of Rights

    etition is most notable for its confirmation of the principles that taxes can be levied only by Parliament, that martial law may not be imposed in time of peace, and that prisoners must be able to challenge the legitimacy of their detentions through the writ of habeas corpus. The Petition's ban on the billeting of troops is reflected in the Third Amendment to the United States Constitution. the petition was signed by the british parliament.
  • English bill of rights

    This document lays down limits of power for the king and queen and states some rights of the people. The document was created and signed by the conventional parliament and signed by king james II and queen mary. The bill gave the right to petition the monarch without fear of retaliation, no taxation by royal perogative, no royal interferance with the law, no excessive bail or unusual punishment and gave the freedome of speech in parliament
  • Albany plan of union

    Albany plan of union
    This was a plan to put the north american colonies under a more centerialized government. The albany congress comprized of representitives from other colonies which included Benjamin Franklin, created this plan. However the plan was never carried out. there was a very famous cartoon for it which stated "Join or die" and was created by benjamin franklin himself.

    French and Indian war
    The seven year war was primarily fought between the british colonies and the french colonies allied with local indian tribes, both supported by their mother countries.some major battles were the battle of oswego, quebec and montreal. ultimatly the French surrendered to the British, however the war put britain into more debt so they put higher taxes on the colonists. the war also made the colonists unify as one for the first time. the colonists also hate britain for forcing them to fight theirwar

    King George
    King george made any mistakes and one was financialy. britain was in a money situation but he still went to war with the french and aided the american indians. to pay off this debt george increased the taxes of the colonists. at this period many of the colonists were already asking for their independence from britian. being denied this repeatedly and having taxes increased infuriated the colonists
  • Stamp act

    required colonists to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper they used. Ship's papers, legal documents, licenses, newspapers, other publications, and even playing cards were taxed. the money raised was to be used to protect the colonies from cross apalachian threats. however the colonists did not like the fact that it was impossed on them without their say.they did not like how controlling they were with it aswell
  • Boston massacre

    Boston massacre
    a mob of angry colonists surounded a group of british troops calling them names and verbaly abused them. To get rid of the angry mob the troops shot off their rifles into the crowd and killed 5 people. This angry mob was due to the townshend act which raised tariffs on imported british goods and the stamp act which required all papers in the colonies to print on british imported stamped paper
  • Boston Tea party

    Boston Tea party
    Britain raised taxes on Tea imported to the colonies, After british troops took 3 shipments from american merchants many colonists became enraged. A gathering was made to talk about the problem and was call the tea party. this meeting led to taking action and the dumping of the taken tea shipments. Britain responded with the coercive act and the intolerable act which ened self-government in massachusets and closed british commerce this made every colonist upset and led to the revolutionary war.
  • Intolerable acts

    These acts were in response to the boston tea party and any other colonist acts against britain. these acts included the closing of the boston harbour to everything but british ships.sending lots of british troops to boston colonists had to house & feed them, british officials could not be tried in colonist courts, british governer was in charge of all boston meetings, extended canadian borders to cut off western colonies.

    The continental congress was a meeting of delagates from 12 of the colonies. georgia was not apart of it. George Washington and john adams were apart of the 12 delegates.The first meeting agreed on the boycott of any british imports. it resulted in a 97% in british imports. the Continental congress met at carpenters hall in philadelphia, Pa

    Paul reveers role in the battles was the alerting of british mevemnts on the militia supplies. he is thought of as riding on horse back yelling "The british are coming, the british are coming". the image shows paul revere riding on horse back to warn the militia

    lexington and concord
    they were the first battles of the revolutionary war. due to a warning of british troops coming the miltia men were able to move the supplies they were after and properlly prepare themselves for battle even though they were out numbered the miltia were able to make them retreat back to boston which atarted the siege of boston. the colonial militia was under command of john parker, john Buttrick & joseph warrner. while british troops were commanded by francis smith, john pitcairn, & Hugh percy.
  • Second coninental congress

    was another convention of 13 delegates, one from each colony. took place in philadelphia, Pa again.The second Congress managed the colonial war effort, and moved incrementally towards independence, and eventually adopting the Declaration of Independence. the second congress included Benjamin Franklin, John hancock and Thomas Jefferson.

  • the treaty of Paris

    the treaty of Paris
    the treaty that ended the revolutionary war, the us sent John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and John Jay to represent the U.S.Great Britain's ceding to the United States all territory between the Allegheny Mountains on the east and the Mississippi River on the west, thereby doubling the size of the new nation.     the convention resulted in the creation of U.S. constitution. The annapolis convention met because of the disatistfaction with the articles of confederation andhad came up with the need for the constitutional convention.
