The theme of this is sound waves on a ball! As time goes on the sound of an object changes. If you dont throw the ball there is no sound but as time continues and u throw the ball there is a sound which is the small hurtles. When the ball comes down and smacks the ground there is a large sound which is the large increase in height of the last point. -
Missouri Compromise
The missouri compromise was when maine was added to the free states and missouri was added to slave states. There was tensions when maine and missouri choose if they were going to be a free state or slave state this basically separated the country. -
Nullification crisis
This crisis was where the states didn't have to follow a federal law with this they were able to nullify the law. The states had an idea that the state law surpassed the federal law. This caused tensions between the north and the south because the states didn't have to follow laws that were put out for states to follow so if a slave law was put out this means they didn't have to follow it and in the south they didn't have to obey what they could and couldn't do. -
Compromise of 1850
California joined as a free state. Compromise of 1850 ended slave trade in washington DC. Strict fugitive laws were added. There was tensions with this because the 36 30 went directly in between california so when california choose if they were going to be a free state or slave state each side was hoping to get the state -
Fugitive Slave Act
The fugitive slave act was the act were all the citizens were required to help and if they didn't that had to pay a fine. There was new courts they had no jury and if the returned a slave they get more money than if they let them free. This cause major tensions because the south did not believe this to be right they wanted the slaves to be free and with this there was a better chance that the slaves would be sent back instead of being free. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
It created two new territories, banned slavery in some states, caused civil war allowed settlers in the territory to decide the question of slavery through popular sovereignty. This caused tension because the northerners did not believe that they should be able to ban slavery they still believe that owning slaves are a good thing and the southerners wanted no slaves so it caused tensions -
Bleeding Kansas
Proslavery and antislavery supporters moved to kansas to influence elections, armed gangs on both sides used guerilla warfare (hit and run tactics) to support cause, by 1856 more than 200 people killed. This caused high tensions because the gangs could kill anyone at anytime they used guerilla fighting and u didnt know if they supported slaves or no slaves so they could of killed anyone. -
Dred Scott Decision
The impact on the Dred Scott case was that even free states would be forced to accept slavery if slaves were brought into their state. It meant that the Republican Party’s platform of preventing the expansion of slavery into new territories was unconstitutional. This causes tensions between the north and the south because the free states were forced to accept slavery and of course not everyone agreed with this and many people believed that it was one of the worst decisions made by the court. -
Raid on Harper's Ferry
At harpers ferry there was a raid which was led by john brown. This raid was meant to stop slavery and John brown hoped that slaves would join him. He basically wanted his own army to take out the people that believed in slaves. This caused tensions between the north and the south because the plantation owners didn't want this guy to give slaves an idea of freedom. While john was in the south side and slave owners were in the north. -
Election of 1860
The election of 1860 was when Abraham lincoln believed that he should run for president. At his speech everyone cheered and people liked him but there was also people that didn't since he did not support slavery. Some slave states didn't even have abraham on their ballot. This cause tension between the north and the south because the northerners did not want abraham to become president because he didn't like slavery but on the other side the southerners like him because he supports free slaves. -
South Carolina's Secession
South carolina's secession was the withdrawal of eleven southern states from the Union in 1860, leading to the Civil War. This caused tensions between the north and the south because its a civil war between them this could lead up to many death and violent things against the south and north.
