  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    The Missouri Compromise was a decision on whether Missouri should become a free state or a slave state. Henry Clay made a decision which included a line called 30,36 LIne which was a line seperating the free states and the slave states. Missouri became a slave state and Maine became a free state. The South later realized this plan was against them since the line is so far South and it is not in the middle of the US
  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    People relized the Missouri Compromise was bad so Henry Clay made the Compromise of 1850 which included five parts. One, California is a Union state, two, New Mexico and Utah become a state, three, the Washington slave trade ended, four, a strict fugative Slave Law, five, the border dispute of Texas and New Mexico was finished. Northerns were outraged by the Fugative Slave Act since they were required by law to capture slaves escaping the South.
  • Fugative Slave Act

    This act requires all citizens from the South and the North to capture runaway slaves. Slaves had to make it to Canada to be safe. If they were caught they were to go to court and the judge would be paid $10 to send the slave back to the South and $5 to set them free.
  • "Bleeding Kansas"

    After the Kansas- Nebraska Act and Kansas was next to the slave state of Missouri which they two states fought about it. John Brown was one of the many who fought in the area called "Bleeding Kansas", Over 200 people died.
  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    Kansas-Nebraska Act
    Nebraska and Kansas were figuring out what side to join since the Missouri COmpromise Line was still there, so they would have to become free states but that would anger the South. THe U.S Congress made the Kansas-Nebraska Act which went against the Missouri Compromise.
  • Dred Scott Decision

    Dred Scott Decision
    A slave named Dred Scott was taken to the northern states with his master which made him a free person, then he and his master went to Virginia, a slave state, and is master died. Slave owners took control of him and he tried to sue since he was a free person. The Supreme Court said negroes are "property" and can't defend their freedsom

  • Election of 1860

    In the election there were 4 running people, Abraham Lincoln for the Republican Party, John C. Breckinridge for Southern Democratic Party, Stephen A. Douglas for Democratic Party, and John Bell for Constitutional Union. The South was going for Breckinridge and the North is going for Abraham.
