End of the French and Indian War
The war has ended,
The blood is gone,
But another problem,
Has just begun.
With the money gone,
Along the lives of many,
Equals was debt,
And taxes of plenty.
Because, of course,
War needs money!
And so the taxes began... Picture resource -
Proclamation of 1763
The space they earned,
They truly deserved,
And oh, how they yearned,
To settle West.
But the mountains caged,
The colonists concealed their rage,
And ignored it.
For now, anyway,
For one day, they will not take anymore..... Picture resource -
Sugar Act
Sweet treats,
Things good to eat,
Are brutally taxed,
Six pence a pound,
The tax was all around.
By the British.
Colonists enraged!
They will not pay!
A boycott they engaged,
And a written petition was made.
Beware, British, the colonists are enraged! Picture resource -
Quartering Act
A knock knock at the door,
Its a soldier washed from shore,
They need a place to stay,
And extra food in store?
In they end,
Some soldiers spend,
Their time elsewhere.
For some refused,
To pay their dues,
This surely would not mend! Picture Resource -
Stamp Act
Yet another unfair tax,
Was the Stamp Act.
Every paper,
Every will,
Would cost an extra bill.
For every paper that need be sealed,
The colonists demand it be repealed!
And then the violence struck,
The officials looked like ducks,
As the colonists tarred and feathered!
And so the tensions rise..... Picture resource -
Townshend Act
Taxes galore,
On goods come ashore.
Lead, tea,
other things.
The colonists bubbled,
So they smuggled.
The Writs of Assistance

Searching the ships,
Made the colonists mad! Picture resource -
Boston Massacre
An argument begun
A mob had sprung.
Confusion everywhere.
Colonists here,
Brits there,
Oh what a dare,
Five colonists lay dead,
On the cold winter bed,
Late that night with thick air.
On Kings Street!
Oh, now, this puts them over the edge! Picture resource -
Tea Act
Tea, tea
From the Sea
The British said
"Must buy from me!"
The merchants mad,
The colonists sad,
The Brits glad,
An Act so bad!
Actions must be taken, lad! Picture resource -
Boston Tea Party
Dressed with masks,
Of Native American
The colonists danced,
Around a ship,
They ran and pranced,
Spilling tea.
Across the bay,
Boxes, crates,
Every which way.
Anger rose,
On this day! Picture resource -
Coercive / Intolerable Acts
A series of unjust acts,
Were starting to get passed.
Why, oh why?
The colonists cried.
Why must we be closed off,
From everywhere else?
A terrible governement the Brits had planned,
High of the colonists they did demand,
So in responce
They had to band.
To get thier heads,
Out of the sand. Picture resource -
First Continental Congress
Do not eat,
To pass this feat,
They had to fast.
A day of prayer,
Cleared the air.
They had to "I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty or give me death."
All colonies
Except for Georgia,
Made a union,
A voice heard,
Patrick Henry took breaths,
"I know not what course others may take,
but as for me,
give me liberty or give me death!" Picture resource -
Paul Revere's ride
Paul Revere,
Came to Town,
Uttering a Horrid Sound,
"The Regulars are Coming"
He tore through the land,
Many had been saved,
By Paul Revere's plan.
His warning rang out,
His life changing sound,
"The Regulars are coming!
The Regulars are coming!" Picture resource -
Lexington and Concord
Marching the troops,
Through the towns,
Marching the troops,
All around.
They stood in a line.
Guns pointed to aim.
Bang!
Who was to blame?
The Revolutionary War had just begun,
And all because
Of one mans gun. Picture resource
