Proclamation of 1763
After the French and Indian War, King George III issued a proclamation that prohibited settler from living west of the Appalachians. -
Sugar Act
In 1764, Parliament passed the Sugar Act that lowered the tax on molasses hoping it would stop smuggling. -
Stamp Act
In 1765 Parliament passed a tax that taxed almost all printed materials including but not liited to newspapers, marriage licenses, and playing cards. -
Declatory Act
In 1766, Parliament repealed the Stamp Act but passed the Declatory Act which stated that it had the right to tax and make decisions for the colonies in any case. -
Townshend Acts
In 1766, Parliament passed the Townshend Acts. Which taxed glass, paint, oil, lead, paper, and tea. -
Boston Massacre
On this day fighting broke out between a Boston mob and some British soldiers. It concluded with 5 civilian casualties and 2 men being branded for manslaughter. -
Tea Act
Gave British East India Company almost complete control of the tea market in colonies. Also imposed the Boston Tea Party. -
Boston Tea Party
Happened due to the Tea Act, a boycott that led to the Sons of Liberty throwing tea into the Bay. -
