Causes of American Revolution

End of French and Indian War
At the end of the French and Indian War, France lost and lost most of their land in North America. The British were in debt and started to tax to colonists. These unfair taxes angered the colonists and started the road to the revolution. -
Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 was declared by KIng George III. It said that no colonist can move west of the Appalation Mountains. The King felt that he didn't want to keep protecting the colonist from the Native Americans. -
Sugar Act
To help make up the the cost of the war, the British government started taxing imported sugar and molasses. This is when the colonists first came up with the phrase, "No taxation without representation.". The colonists started boycotting taxed sugar and started smuggling sugar in. -
Stamp Act
This required special tax stamps for legal documents, dice, cards, newspaper, etc. The colonists had no say in Parlament, so they sent pettions to they King. They also boycotted the stamps, smuggled, and used violence. -
Quartering Act
This forced colonists to house British soldier stationed in the colonies. -
Townshend Act
Tax on imports like glass,paper and tea.
Allowed officers to use writes of assistance to search colonial ships for smuggeled goods. -
Boston Massacre
British soldiers are in the colonies looking for extra work to make some extra money .A colonists yelled at the soldier "Hey looking for some extra work? Go and clean my outhouse!" that began a riot in which a gun shot was fired. In the end 5 people died and 1 was wounded. -
Tea Act
This act allowed colonists to import British tea directly from India. The tea was still taxed but much cheaper. The colonists thought it was a trick to be taxed without a represntative. -
Boston Tea Party
The Sons of Liberty, dressed as Mohawk Indians, snuck onto the British East India Company's ships and dumped all of the tea into the Boston Harbor. -
Intolerable/Coercive Act
Punishment for the Boston It banned town meetings, closed the Boston Habor, and there was a new quartering act. -
First Continental Congress
This was a meeting between representatives of 12 of the 13 colonies. They met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This meeting was to discuss how to respond to the Intolerable Acts. They demanded a repeal of the Acts, the colonies started to train militias, and there were new boycotts. -
Paul Revere's Ride
Paul Revere waited at midnight, watching the Old North Church, for the lantern in the tower. As he saw the lanterens, he rode of, yelling, "The British Regulars are coming!". He was caught while he was warninig Sam Adams and John Hancock to leave. -
Lexington and Concord
The battles that happened in Massachusetts Minutemen met British soldiers as the British tried to take the colonists stockpiled wepons. This was where the first shots were fired in the Revolutionary War.
