Road to Revolution

  • The French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War
    It started in 1754 and ended 1763. Great Britain got territorial gains and they won the war.
  • The Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763
    King George the third issued the Proclamation of 1763 to avoid problems and conflict. It banned settlements west of the Appalachian Mountains. Colonists were mad because they had already started moving west.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    Great Britain had a lot of money to pay back from the war, so Parliament made the Sugar Act to make colonists help and pay the debt. It taxed sugar and molasses, and the colonists were mad because that caused their tea to be more expensive.
  • Stamp Act of 1766

    Stamp Act of 1766
    Colonists were taxed and had to pay for an official stamp on paper items. There were many protests. It was given in 1765, but repealed in 1766.
  • Townshend Act of 1767

    Townshend Act of 1767
    The Townshend Acts were taxes on glass, lead, paints, paper and tea. Because of all the taxes, colonists boycotted British goods.
  • The Boston Masacre

    The Boston Masacre
    The Boston Masacre was when around 30 saucy boys got together and then they started throwing snowballs and yelling at red coats. The red coats had an open fire and five people died. It wasn't actually a Masacre, but they wanted to make the British look bad.

    British Parliament passed the Tea Act. This allowed ships to bring tea right to the colonies instead of taking it to England beforehand.

    The Boston Tea Party was when the Sons of Liberty dressed as Indians and dumped more than 92,000 pounds of tea into Boston Harbor. They were protesting all the taxes the British were giving.

    The Intolerable Acts were passed to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party. They got a new governor and Boston Harbor got closed.

    The colonists decided they were done with the British and that they wanted to start their own country. The told the volunteer army yo get ready for war.
