Tea Act
The British had a tax on tea already, but the government made it that only British Tea Companies could sell the tea. They also lowered the amount of tea because the companies had a monopoly, so tea smugglers went out of business. -
French and Indian War
The English and the French battled for colonial domination in North America, the Caribbean, and in India. -
Proclamation of 1763
The proclamation declared that the boundaries of the settlements of the thirteen colonies would be Appalachia. -
Stamp Act
The proclamation that meant that every time someone wanted to buy a paper product you had to use a stamp. -
Boston Massacre
The riot began when about 50 citizens attacked a British sentinel. A British officer, Captain Thomas Preston, called in additional soldiers, and these too were attacked, so the soldiers fired into the mob, killing 3 on the spot, Samuel Gray, James Caldwell, and wounding 8 others, two of whom died later, Samuel Maverick and Patrick Carr. -
Boston Tea Party
Thomas Hutchinson allowed 3 ships full of tea into the harbor. Colonists dressed up as Indians and threw 342 boxes of tea into the harbor. -
Intolerable Acts
After the French and Indian War the British Government decided to get greater benefits from the colonies. The colonies were charged with greater taxes without any representation in Britain. -
Declaration of Independence
Five people; including Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson, wrote the declaration of independence.
