    The French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War was a large imperial war between the Indian and French also known as the "Sevens Year's War". British Colonial forces attempted to expel the French. The two colonies fought over who the Ohio River belonged to. This war ended with the Treaty of Paris.
    Significance:
    -Great Britain gained major territorial growth in North America.
    -There was a certain point in the Appalachian Mountains that the British wouldn't let the American Colonists go past which made them upset.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    It was an act put on the American Colonies by the British that said they had to pay a tax on all sorts of printed materials. The act was called this because the colonies were supposed to buy paper from Britain that had an official stamp on it to show they had paid the tax.
    Significance:
    - The Americans felt like this act ruined their rights and they believed the British should've paid the taxes since it was passed in England by the Parliament.
  • The Townshend Duties

    The Townshend Duties
    Colonists had to house British troops and provide them food as well as shelter. Taxes were placed on some goods brought into the colonies. To enforce the taxes, parliament issued writs of assistance. These were search warrants the British officers could use to enter homes of businesses in search of smuggled good.
    Significance:
    -The taxes were used to pay the salary of judges and governors
    -The British thought the colonists would be okay with having taxes on imported goods but they weren't.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    British soldiers open fired on 5 American Colonists killing them all. They did this because the American colonies didn't like the Townshend acts.
    Significance:
    - Americans felt like the Townshend acts were a violation to their rights so they began to protest and the British brought soldiers to keep order.
  • The Tea Act

    The Tea Act
    The Tea Act gave companies the right to ship their tea to colonies without having to land in England first, and to commission agents who have the right to sell tea in the colonies.
    Significance:
    -The Boston tea party occurred when 92,000 pounds of tea were poured into the Boston Harbor by the Sons of Liberties disguised as Mohawk Indians.
    - 5 laws were created as punishment to keep control of the colonists after the Boston tea Party. These are called the Intolerable Acts.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    These battles signaled the start of the American Revolution. The British army set out from Boston to Capture rebel leaders Samuel Adams and John Hancock as well as to destroy their weapons and ammo. However since the colonists were warned, the rebel leaders were able to escape. Americans took the first shot of the battle.
    Significance:
    - The Americans won the battle and the British retreated back to Boston
  • The Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence
    The Declaration of Independence was a paper that was signed by delegates listing complaints about the king of England and why the colonists should break apart from England because the people had rights that couldn't be taken away.
    Significance:
    -This cut ties with the British and declared America's full independence from the British
