  • French & Indian War

    French & Indian War
    The French & Indian War, also known as the Nine Years War was a war fought between Great Britain and France. They both wanted more land, control of North American trade routes, and alliance with the Native Americans. The French relied on Indian allies, while the British relied on colonial militia, Iroquois Confederacy, and the Cherokee Nation. This led British to gain land in order to start the 13 colonies.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    An order by King George III that forbids Americans from settling west of the Appalachian Mountains. It was created at the end of the French and Indian War. One of the main goals of the war was to capture the Ohio River Valley, an area rich in timber and fur. After years of warfare, the Americans believed that they had earned the right to settle and harvest this land. However, the Proclamation specifically forbids this, which many Americans took as a violation to their inherent right to property.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The Sugar Act was a tax on sugar. It was created because the British was in debt from the French & Indian War. They needed money and they needed it bad. This is what started to aggravate the colonists.It was repealed in 1766.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act was created because the British were still in debt. It was a tax on anything that was printed, newspaper, letters, playing cards, etc. It just added more fuel to the fire that was angering the colonists. It was also repealed in 1766.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    THe Boston Massacre was when the colonists reached their boiling point. While the colonists were aggravating soldiers, the soldiers stood their ground, until they couldn't. They began to fire on the crowd and killed 5 people. This was one of the key things that led to the Revolution.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The Tea Act was created because there was still a large amount of debt from the war. It put a tax on tea. This angered the colonists more. This tax was not repealed until 1861.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    This was the event that happened because of the Tea Act. 116 American colonists dressed up as Indians and dumped 342 chests of tea in the harbor. This would lead to the British creating the Intolerable Acts.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    The Intolerable Acts were a series of acts created by the British in 1774. It consisted of 5 acts. The Boston Port Act closed the port of Boston until the colonists paid back the money from the Boston Tea Party. The Massachusetts Government Act annulled the charter, let the British control town meetings. Administration of Justice Act stated that the British couldn't be tried in the colonies. Quartering Act. The Quebec Act extended the Canadian borders to cut off the colonies of CT, MA, VA.
  • Lexington & Concord

    Lexington & Concord
    Lexington & Concord was one of the first battles fought between the colonists and the British. There was a militia forming in Massachusetts and the King wanted this to end before it started. However, nobody knows who actually fired first. The plan was very poorly executed by the British because they underestimated the colonists. Paul Revere was the one (along with 2 others) to warn the others about the British. They used the terrain to their advantage because the colonists knew more about it.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    The Declaration of Independence was basically a break up letter from America to the British. It stated how they wanted independence and would refuse to do anything that the British told them to do. 56 people signed it, which was very dangerous for them, because the British were going to attack anyone that was associated with the Declaration of Independence.
