    French and Indian war

    The French and Indian war was a war that lasted between 1754 and 1763 and the British were fighting the French who were allied with the Indians. It started when George Washington and his troops tried to take over Fort Duchesne. This caused the war to start. The war is known as the 7 years war, even though it lasted 9 years. The British eventually won and the French left that area in America.
  • The Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763
    King George III issued the Proclamation of 1763 on October 6. This proclamation stated that any American colonists could not go west of the Appalachian mountains into the old territory of the French that now belonged to the Indians. King George III did this to not cause any conflict between the Colonists and the Indians. The colonists moved west of the Appalachian mountains anyways.

    Sugar Act
    The sugar act was a tax that Parliament established in 1764 after the French and Indian war because Britain was in debt. The colonists didn't care much about the tax but weren't very happy that nobody was representing them in Parliament. The tax was later repealed in 1766.

    This tax was passed by Parliament in 1765 and anything with paper had a tax on it. The colonists did not like this tax very much because they weren't able to have a say in making the tax and they were running out of money. The tax was repealed a year later in 1766.

    Parliament passed the Townshend acts of 1767 in the year of, you guessed it, 1767. The colonists didn't like this because they had no say in the acts and Parliament was abusing their political power. The Townshend acts of 1767 was some taxes that taxed British imported goods like glass, tea, lead, paper, and other goods.

    The Boston Massacre
    The Boston massacre was when British soldier shot and kill several people. This happened because a crowd of people were heckling the soldiers, and started throwing snowballs and even rocks. The British soldiers fired in return and this enraged the colonists. The event was heavily publicized by Samuel Adams and Paul Revere.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    Parliament passed the Tea act because Britain was still desperate for money. This taxed anyone who bought tea and it was also meant to help the tea companies not go bankrupt. The colonists hated this a lot and tensions were rising between the Patriots and the Loyalists.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The Boston tea party happened a few months after the tea act. When a British supply ship docked in Boston, the Sons of Liberty dressed up as Indians and got on the supply ship. Then the Sons of Liberty threw all of the tea off of the ship into the ocean to show that the the Tea act was an unwanted tax. Hundreds of spectators cheered when the tea was thrown off the ship.

    After the Boston Tea Party, parliament punished the Colonists of Massachusetts by taxing them even more and making them pay for their own hospitality and environment. This provoked the Colonists to create the first continental army and also start the Revolutionary war.
  • 1st Continental Congress

    1st Continental Congress
    George Washington and 11 others all had a meeting in Philadelphia. This was when the United States was created and when the first Continental Army was created. Many others included John Dickenson, Samuel and John Adams, John Jay, and Patrick Henry.
