  • The French and Indian War

    The North American Colonies of the British went to war against the French, who were assisted by many Native American tribes.
  • The Proclamation of 1763

    French territory in North America was given to the British by king George the 3rd after ending the Seven Years War (French and Indian War).
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act was passed to allow the British to tax colonists so the British could pay for the French and Indian war.
  • The Stamp Act of 1766

    The Stamp Act was passed so the British could tax the colonists on paper products such as newspapers.
  • The Townshend Acts or 1767

    The Townshend Acts were passed to allow taxation on lead, paints, glass, tea, and paper which the colonists would have to pay the British. Writs of Assistance were used to enforce as well.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre happened when a British soldier shot multiple people reportedly to be a mob and patronizing the soldiers.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party happened when colonists who were called "the Sons of Liberty" dressed up like Indians and boarded a boat carrying and transporting a large amount of tea. They set sail and threw all the tea overboard in hopes of giving negative effects on the British's income or profit.
  • The Tea Act

    The Tea Act's main objective was to reduce the huge amount of tea being held by the British, after the colonists started boycotting the goods.
  • Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts were given to punish the Sons of Liberty and colonists for their "tea party." The Boston harbor was closed, Massachusetts's charter was cancelled, any royal officials accused of crimes would go to Britain for trial, and a new governor, General Thomas Gage, was appointed to Massachusetts.
