French and Indian War
The French and Indian War, or Seven Years War was a conflict primarily fought between Britain and France over New World territory. Although, Britain gained territory and increased the nation's debt after winning. The newfound taxes on the colonial British upset the colonists, starting the transformation of America. -
Treaty of Paris
The Treaty of Paris ends the French and Indian War. France gives up most of its territories in North America to Great Britain, but Louisiana west of the Mississippi River is given to Spain. -
The Sugar and Currency Act
The Sugar act (April 5) taxed sugar up marking cost in order to help British revenues. Currency Act(September 1) prohibits the colony’s from printing or distribute it paper money. The colonists resent these changes and begin to protest. -
The Stamp and Quartering Act
Stamp act (March 22) imposes “unnecessary” taxes on on more items like paper and common items. Quartering act (March 24) states that all colonies should provide the British army with shelter, food, clothes, etc. -
The Declaratory Act
The Declaratory Act (March 18) asserts its full power and authority to make laws and statutes to bind the colonies and people of America in all cases whatsoever. -

The British Arrive
The British, worried about the colonies revolting, sent army’s to address this behavior. They brought ships that had 50 cannons, as if the were ready for war. -
The Sons of Liberty
“To the Betrayed Inhabitants of the City and Colony of New York” broadside published by the local Sons of Liberty. They were ready to uprise and throw the British away. -
The Boston Massacre
British soldiers shot and killed several people while being harassed by a mob in Boston. There names are Crispus Attucks, Patrick Carr, Samuel Gray, Samuel Maverick and James Caldwell. -
The Committees of Correspondence
The purpose of the Committees of Correspondence was to inform, unite, and coordinate colonial efforts to counter laws enacted by British Parliament and gain public support for independence. -
The Boston Tea Party
The colonists, frustrated and angry at Britain for imposing “taxation without representation,” dumped 342 chests of tea, imported by the British East India Company into the harbor. -
Battle of Lexington and Concord
The famous 'shot heard 'round the world', marked the start of the American War of Independence. It persuaded many Americans to take up arms and support the cause of independence. -

The Declaration of Independence's goal was to rally the troops, win foreign allies, and to announce the creation of a new country.
