French and Indian war
The French and Indian war began in 1754 and ended with the Treaty of Paris in 1763. The French and Indian war is also known as the 7 years war. The war provided Great Britain enormous territorial gains in North America. Frances expansion into the Ohio River Valleys repeatedly brought conflicts with the British colonies. The French won a string of victories but the British finally won their first great victory at Louisbourg. The French and Indian war ended with the Treaty of Paris. -
Treaty of Paris
The Treaty of Paris ended the French and Indian war.France gave up all territories in mainland North America which ended any foreign military threat to the British there. -
Sugar act
British legislation aimed at ending the smuggling trade in sugar and molasses from the French and Dutch West Indies. The goal of the act was to raise revenue to help defray the military costs of protecting the American colonies. Great Britain was in debt so the sugar act helped. -
Stamp Act
The act required the colonist to pay a tax. A stamp on various forms of paper or documents it was a direct tax forced by the British government. -
Boston massacre
The Boston Massacre was a “street fight” between “patriot” mobs, throwing snowballs,stones, and sticks and British soldiers. British soldiers open fire on a group of colonists and killed 5 men. -
Tea Act
The Tea Act was a law set in place by the British parliament. This forced the colonists to order trades from this company, trade through this company and use this company’s ship for delivery all after they had placed a tax on the tea. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was a political protest at griffins wharf in Boston. American colonists frustrated and angry at Britain for “taxation without representation” the colonists dumped 342 chest tea that was imported by British East India company harbor. The effect of this was the Boston harbor shut down. -
Intolerable Act
The intolerable acts were a series of four laws passed by the British parliament to punish the colony of Massachusetts bay for the Boston Tea Party. -
Battles of Lexington and Concord
The battles of Lexington and Concord kicked off the American Revolutionary War. The British Army set out from Boston to capture rebel leaders, Samuel Adams and John Handcock. The British also wanted to destroy the Americans store of weapons and ammunition in Concord. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
The battle of Bunker Hill was a battle to where the American Patriots were defeated. This defeat gave the colonists more courage to stand up to Britain.
