New World conflict between British American colonies and those of New France. -
Pontiac’s War
The Natives were not happy with the British rule after the French and Indian War, so many warriors from different tribes joined together to try driving the British away. -
Proclamation of 1763
Issued by King George III, made boundaries in the Appalachian Mountains, not allowing colonists settling on French land after French and Indian War. This was hoped to neutralize conflict between the white colonists and the indigenous peoples there. -
Sugar Act
Aimed to provide increased revenues to fund for British responsibilities from the French and Indian War. -
Stamp Act
British parliament attempt to raise revenue by taxing things like commercial/legal papers, newspapers, pamphlets, etc. This was in hopes of being able to use this and the Stamp Act revenue combined to meet at least half the costs from the Pontiac’s War. -
Declaratory Act
An act that stated the Parliament could make laws restricting the American colonies. -
Townshend Act
Another attempt to try having more power over the American colonies by placing taxes on things like glass, paint, etc. -
Boston Massacre
After getting harassed by a crowd, British soldiers retaliated and shot/killed many people. -
Boston Tea Party
A protest against the Tea Act by the Sons of Liberty where they dumped 342 chests of tea that came from the East India Tea Company into a harbor. -
Tea Act
This was a deal with the East India Tea Company, giving them all control over trade and delivery of tea. This forced the colonists to order, trade, and deliver things through this company. This was after they had placed a tax on tea. -
Intolerable Acts
A series of laws to punish the colonists after the Boston Tea Party. -
Battles of Lexington and Concord
Signaled the start of the Revolutionary war. The British army set out to capture the rebel leader, Samuel Adams and John Hancock. “Shot heard ‘round the world”
