Treat of Paris-1763
This marked the end of the French and Indian War. The British won, France lost their North American land. -
Proclamation of 1763
Prohibited colonies to expand westward past the Appalachian Mountains due to the fear of Indian attacks. Only licensed traitors could travel westward to deal with Indians. -
Sugar Act
Colonists now had to pay tax on foreign imported sugar and other items. This tax effected merchants mostly. -
Stamp Act
This taxed all paper goods and affected everyone. A stamp was shown on the paper good, that the tax was paid. This included marriage licenses, playing cards, and legal documents. -
Quartering Act
Colonists were forced to house British Soldiers. Many felt as if the soldiers did nothing and weren't there to protect them. -
Declaratory Act
Stated that the British had overall sovereignty over the colonists. Even though the Stamp act was repealed, this gave no power to the colonists. Soon more taxes were going to placed. -
Townshed Acts
Tax was put on lead, paints, and tea. This made the colonists upset, because they drank tea numerous times in one day. -
Boston Massacre
A protest of local colonists versus the British. The redcoats could not control their temper, and fired into the crowd of colonists, killing or wounding at least eleven people. -
Committees of Correspondence
The patriot leaders created a shadowed government. The committees were an important role for the revolution. -
Boston Tea Party
Sons of Liberty dressed as Indians and dumped a massive amount of crates containing tea into the Boston Harbor. This was an act of rebellion. -
Intolerable Acts
This was passed after the Boston Tea Party. As a punishment, the Boston harbor was closed and there was a new Quartering act. The colonists were forced to pay for the tea cost. -
The Association
The First Continental Congress created a system, where they would start a trade boycott with Britain. -
First Continental Congress
Representatives from twelve out of the thirteen colonies attended a formal meeting to decide on how to react to the Intolerable Act and agree to boycott British goods. -
First Continetal Congress
Only 12 out of the 13 colonies were at this congress meeting. the congress ratified the first national constitution. -
Second Continental Congress
All 13 colonies were present, the Olive Branch Petition was approved and sent. -
Battle of Lexington and Concord
This battle started the Revolutionary War. Paul Revere and others road to warn the people. "The British are coming!" -
Battle of Bunker Hill
A battle fought on Breed's Hill on the outer part of Boston. The colonists retreated, but scarcely damaged the British army. -
Olive Branch Petition
Adopted by the Continental Congress, Americans agreed to be loyal to the crown if they were given independence. King George III rejected the colonists' action and declared them rebels. -
Battle of Quebec
The British won a battle against the French for any land they occupied. Therefore, the French were kicked out of the New World, and the British received the important Ohio river valley. -
Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence is when the Second Continental Congress declared themselves free from British rule. -
Battle of Trenton
George Washing led a surprise attack on the Hessian soldier because he decided to go up through the Delaware River. The Americans won the Battle of Trenton. -
Valley Forge
Valley Forge was where the rebels stayed for the winter of 1777-1778. Life in the military camp was really difficult. -
Battle of Saratoga
The Colonists win the battle against Britain. The significance is that after this battle, France joins the American cause. -
Battle of Yorktown
Washington sent his men to Yorktown to go against Cornwallis. Lafayette was sent to block the British troops, so they were cornered. Cornwallis ended up surrendering. -
Treaty of Paris-1783
This marked the end of the Revolutionary War. The terms were in the U.S.'s favor. The colonists were recognized as independent and the U.S. had the land from the Atlantic to the Mississippi River.
