End of the French and Indian War
The Fench and Indian war was fought by France and England to control the middle territory in the new world, especaily the Ohio River Valley beacuse of the fertile soil. England won against France. Colonists were very excited they had won their first war, and gained land... or did they. -
The Proclamation of 1763
This banned all colonists settlement west of the Appalachian mountains. Colonists were very upset they had fought a war, and couldn't settle the land they had obtained. -
Sugar Act
This act put taxes on sugar, molasses, ect. The colonist thought this was tyrany because they were not represented in the British parliment. -
Stamp Act
When this act was passed, colonists now had to pay a tax on printed paper. This included legal documents, wills, news papers, and even playing cards. The colonists were very displeased with this and even started a Stamp Act Congress. They massively boycotted this act and it was repealed later by England because of the boycotts. -
Quartering Act
When the Quartering act was passed, it required colonists to feed and house British troops. More and more soldiers were coming over from Britain and they needed a place to stay so they passed this act. Colonists thought there rights as citizens were taken away and some even refused to let them in their homes. -
Townshend Act
The Townshend acts put tax on all imports coming into the colonies. Entgland thought this wouldnt be as bad as their other taxes but the colonists were still being taxed and they knew it. Alot of times goods were smuggled in . -
Boston Massacre
March 5th 1770 on King Street 5 unarmed colonist were killed and more were injured by British troops. Crispus Attucks was the first to die in this massacre. Colonists were rioting, throwing things, and shouting, but there was no need to kill them. -
Tea Act
The Tea Act required all tea to be bought from the British East India Company creating a British monopoly. The actual tax was 3 pence per pund of tea. In the American dollar this would be 3 cents. This put many colonist merchants out of buisness, and they wondered what they could do. -
Boston Tea Party
116 colonist dumped 90,000 lbs (45 tons) of tea into the harbor at Griffins Warf. The colonist threw a total of 342 containers of tea overboard, and it took the the colonist 3 hours between the times of 7:00 PM and 10:00 PM. The full containers had 400 lbs and the half containers had 100 lbs of tea in them. Compared to todays economy after inflation, the tea they threw into the water would be worth about 1 milllion dollars.The colonists were excited they had stood up to England and their tax. -
Coercive/Intolerable acts
After the Tea Party, Boston's ports were blockaded, or blocked off from getting supplies as a punishment for the Boston Tea Party. The colonist were upset by the action England took to punish them. They just wanted to make a statement. -
Ride of Paul Revere
On April 18th 1775 700 British troops marched on Concord MA to seize colonist weapons. When the British were spotted Billy Dawes, Paul revere, and Sam Prescott rode all over Massachusetts warning everyone the regulars are coming. Colonists were preparing for war. -
Battles of Lexington and Concord
On April 19th 77 minutemen waited for the 700 British soldiers. Enormously outnumbered the colonists stood there awaiting a battle. No one knew who fired the first shots but when fired 8 colonial farmers were shot and killed, while others wer injured.This was the start of the war to have a free country apart from England and their treacherous monarchy. This war will have a huge impact on the world.
