Sugar Act
The Sugar Act was the first tax meant to raise money from the colonies in order to raise treasury revenue and thus lower the debt acquired during the French and Indian War. The Sugar Act expanded taxes from molasses to other items such as sugar, coffee, pimiento, lumber, and iron. -
Stamp Act
The new tax was imposed on all American colonists and required them to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper they used. -
Townsend Acts
The taxes were repealed, but the taxes on tea was retained. -
Boston Massacre

Tea Act
The act helped tea companies send tea to North America also had it was accepted to Parliament's rights of taxation. -
The Boston Tea Party
Members of Liberty protested the Act by duping chests of tea into the Boston Harbor. -
The Intolerable Acts
Britain responded to the Boston Tea Party by passing several laws that became known in America as the Intolerable Acts. One law closed Boston Harbor until Bostonians paid for the destroyed tea. Another law restricted the activities of the Massachusetts legislature and gave added powers to the post of governor of Massachusetts. -
