Lexington and Concord
Troops found militiamen waiting and Lexington as a distraction to move the supplies from Concord to somewhere else. At Concord, troops found more militiamen waiting for them. 2nd Continental Congress
The delegates meet in Philadelphia, delcaring George Washington commander of the army, and they also chose Thomas Jefferson to draft a Declaration of Independence. Congress made some revisions but later approved it on July 4, 1776. 56 delegates signed with John Hancock being the first.
