Road 2 Revolution - Matthew Quigley

  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was put in place by the British to pay back the debt they were in after the French and Indian War. The revenue that the Stamp Act made was used to keep British soldiers in the colonies to help maintain peace between the natives and Americans. The effect of the Stamp act was a bad relationship between the British and the Americans. This would lead to the Americans boycotting things and revolting against British rule.
  • Sons of Liberty

    Sons of Liberty
The Sons of Liberty were created as an act of retaliation to the Stamp Act. The Sons of Liberty helped create and enforce boycotts on British goods to dry up their trade. They set up the Boston Tea Party. The Sons of Liberty were a sign of Americans coming together to revolt and make a change. The effects of the Sons of Liberty were to go against British rule through violent strategies. They used threats, starting, and boycotts to pave the way for the American revolution.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
British troops were in Boston to keep the Americans in line, and the Americans disliked that the British were in America. The Americans (teenagers and young men) were arguing with the British, and Americans got rowdy. One of the British got hit by a club, and the British guy was shot. Once the first shot was fired, all of the British troops were fired. There were six deaths in the Boston Massacre. The Boston Massacre caused a uniting of the colonies, which would lead to the American revolution.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
The British put this tax in place to help get money to refund their government. They knew this tax would be effective because of the American's love and need for tea. Also, the Tea Act created a monopoly on tea, so they would have to make money. The effects of this would be the Boston Tea Party and the further progression of the American Revolution. This would be a significant turning point in how the British and the Americans felt and acted about each other.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
The Tea Act caused the Boston Tea Party because the British had a monopoly on tea, and tea was essential to the Americans. The Americans revolted against the Tea Act. The Sons of Liberty dressed as Native Americans and threw 342 chests of tea into the ocean. The British shut down the Boston Harbor until all of the tea was paid for. This is the first significant act of retaliation against the British taxes. This is another important event that led to the American Revolution.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts were put into place by the British because of the Boston Tea Party. The intolerable Acts were the Boston Port Act, which closed the Boston harbor to trade; the Massachusets Government Act, which made it so that there was no self Government; the Justice Act, which made it so that all trials were in Great Britain: and the second Quartering Act, which made it so that the colonists had to house soldiers.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
The effects of the Intolerable Acts were the dissatisfaction towards the British and the making of the First Continental Congress. This was a big part of how the colonist started to form groups and meetings to be able to reform the British rule and taxes.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
The First Continental Congress was made because of the Intolerable Acts. The colonist leaders met to talk about what they should do in response to the Intolerable Acts. They decided that they needed to have a massive boycott of British goods si that the British didn't make as much money. The impact of the Continental Congress was that it was a major step in being able to rebel against the British. This would end up being the group that would help us Declare our independence from Great Britain.
  • Lexington & Concord

    Lexington & Concord
Lexington & Concord was a mission by the British to seize guns and ammo from the Americans to help prevent rebellion. They didn't find anything, making the mission no longer secretive. Paul Revere and his spy network made it difficult for the British to sneak in. There was a shot, and there were 273 British casualties. The impact of this is that the British no longer snuck into places they just barged in. Also, they found nothing which made them mad. This was the start of American Independence
  • Olive Branch Petition

    Olive Branch Petition
The Olive Branch Petition was sent by the Continental Congress to King George as the last resort to fix the relationship between the two. The Olive Branch Petition had three parts; They wanted to cease fire in Boston, George III to repeal the Acts, and George III to define the American's rights in writing. King George laughed it off, making the need for wanting Independence higher. This also gave us no faith in settling the dispute that has been going around and would help drive us to rebel.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was a document sent to the King by the Americans that declared their independence as their own country. This set out that they chose their government. The impact of the Declaration of Independence was that this started the revolution for sure. They would lead to war. and then they would join together and fight against the British. This would assemble all of the colonies as a single force.
