Alexander Webb converts to Islam
Alexander Webb, a well-known journalist, decided that he was going to convert to the Muslim faith, adn later went on to become an advocate and speaker for muslims in the United States. -
First mosque is discovered in America
A large portion of the Muslim population in the United States is in Michigan, where one of the very first Mosques was built. It gave the Muslims a place to practice their religion the proper way, and showed that the US did indeed possess freedom of religion. -
Lost- Found Nation of Islam
Being that Christianity was big in the United States, people of all different decents and races followed it. Wallace Fard however tries to strongly encourage African Americans to disregard their Christian faith and return to their ancestors faith of Islam. The name of this movement was the Black Muslim movement. He later disappeared unexpectedly. -
Federation of Islamic Associations of the U.S. and Canada (FIA) is established
Thie FIA was founded in Iowa, in order to provide knowledge for people that were unknowledgable on Islam and its practices. It also showed that both the United States and Canada alike were willing to except Islam and the practicing of Islam into their countries. -
Islamic Center is Open in Washington D.C.
President Eisenhower gave a speech at the opening of the Islamic Center as the American representative. He spoke on how open America was to condoning Islamic practices as he reitterated the freedom of religion in the United States. -
Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) is founded
The ICNA was founded to provide support for people interested in becoming a follower of Islam. It gave them the knowledge they needed to form appropriate decisions about all of the aspects of the religion. -
Warith Deen Muhammad offers prayer at Senate
He was the first person to reach out to the US senate and offer prayers. Not only was this a big step for Islam but religion as a whole. However, on behalf of the religion of Islam, it showed that they wanted to have a mutual repsect for everyone, whether they were supporters of their religion or not. -
The Pentagon hosts a Ramadan
Being there were wars and other worldwide crisises going on, there were obviously military members on active duty. As you can imagine, there were military members of the Islamic faith. The pentagon took it upon themselves to show respect for all members of the military and their relgious practices and hosted a meal for Ramadan. This meal is still hosted at the pentagon every year. -
Terrorist attacks from the Middle East
Terrorists, believed to have ties to the Islamic faith, carried out attacks on the United States. This lead to a war between the United States and the Middle East. This also lead many people to false assumptions of Islaimc religion as whole, affecting the view that many Americans have of people of the Islamic faith in a negtive way.
