    753 BC, Remus and Romulus, twin brothers who were raised by a she-wolf founded Rome in 753 BC. The people who actually built Rome were members of an Indo-European tribe (a.k.a. the Latins) reached Italy in the 1000s BC. Under the Indo-European tribe, Rome became a bustling city.

    509 BC, Rome was ruled by the Etruscans until the Romans revolted and threw out the last King. In place, Romans established a republic, which was a new type of government for them.
