  • Navigation Acts

    Navigation Acts
    Purpose- To direct trade between Egland and the colonies Outcome- Smuggling became more common
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    Purpose- Set the Appalachian Mountains as the temporary western boundary for the colonies. It was to prevent fighting. Outcome- Specualtors and many colonists were very angered because they had already bought that land and not able to use it.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    Purpose- Lowered the tax on imported molasses hoping that the lower tax could convince colonists to pay it. Also, to let officers seize goods without court. Outcome- Angered colonists who thought this interfered with their rights
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    Purpose- Placed a tax on almost all printed material, including newspaper. All printed material had to have a stamp. They wanted it because they were so in debt that they needed revnue from the colonies. Outcome- The Virigina assembly passed resolution, they urged boycotts, and they had merchants sign nonimportation agreements. This law was reapealed in 1766, mobs, "No Taxaton Without Represenattion"

    Declaratory Act
    Purpose- Stated that Parliament had the right to tax and make decisions for the colonies Outcome-Helped build up to the Revolutionary War, some felt that it meant more taxes were coming soon, while others were unsure
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    Purpose- A tax on imported goods such as glass, tea, and paper, After the Stamp Act was repealed was when they needed it Outcome- Daughters and sons of liberty were created, colonists were angered, Another boycott.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    Purpose- Allowed the company a virtual monopoly, or sole, of the trade for tea in America. Outcome- New boycott, Daughters of Liberty issued a pamphlet declaring that rather than part with freedom. "we'll part with our tea"
  • Coercive Acts (Intolerable Acts)

    Coercive Acts (Intolerable Acts)
    Purpose- Intended to punish the people of Massachusetts for their residence to Birtish law, they also closed Boston Harbor and forced Bostonians to shelter soldiers in their own homes Outcome- Colonists said that the Coercive Acts violated their rights and while Boston was being isolated, other colonies sent food and clothing to support them. Great Britain did not want to loose control of the colonies.
  • Quebec Act

    Quebec Act
    Purpose- This law was to set up government for Quebec Outcome- Gave the area west of the Appalachians and north of the Ohio River. The colonists expressed their feelings in their name for the new laws- the Intolerable Acts
