    Decrese of students population

    From the group photo, we can see the students population decresed from 1929 to 1932. The cause was because of the great depression which made the parents of the students are not able to afford the expensive fees of Ridley College.

    Social Atmosphere

    In the Acta Ridleiana we saw that they wrote about the Ridley students that were reported missing or dead. With this, we can imagine that those soldiers that went to fight in the war left friends and family at the school. So we can infer that student across the school were worried about their fellow classmates and friends that were out there fighting for their country. -Alejandro and Emilio

    Ridley Life

    Ridley life was a mixture between the normal and war. For example, on one side of the newspaper there would be sports results and activities but on another side there would be war casualities or letters from ridley students that have gone into the war. This shows that ridley was intertwined with war and was a part of daily life just like sports is today.

    Ridley Prep

    Ridley students invested into the war by preparing and being involved in different military activities. For example they did blackout drills as we would do lockdown drills to this day. Every single Ridlian aspired to be a high ranked officer in the cadets corps same as today.

    Sports = distraction

    Since the opning of Ridley, sports have been a very important thing in the students' life, if not a lifestyle. In 1939 when the war was started and Rildeans started joining the cause, the atmosphere became a very important issue, that students had to live with it daily. So, sports during this period of time became a distraction that might have taken the war thoughts away. Alejandro and Emilio

    Ridley War

    The war had began and Riideley Colege began to prepare students to go into war. This is why they all these different sport teams and how all the students went into the cadet corps. This is to ensure that they were reajdy going into war. Example, they had blackouts so they can be prepared.

    Ridley Activities

    Although Ridley was under the pressure of WW2, they had a positive environment within. Clubs, and activities were organized in the school. There were the Ridley gas model clubs and other activites like the Red Cross project which the boys in the school provided entertainments for the wounded soldiers. Overall, Ridley still had its spirit even when the WW2 was going on.

    1943-1944 Ridley invovlement

    During the WW2, as seen in the Acta of Ridley. Many of the boys joined the war, and lots were killed or went missing. As we can tell that in that time period RIdley was under a lot of pressure and boys were involved in the war when they didn't want to.
  • Sam Heaman

    Sam had distinguished himself after the war and was awarded multiple medals for his efforts. Sam Heaman was the ideal student for Ridley College and was what many different students aspired to be.
  • Sports Teams

    There were many sport teams along the school. In the pictures, all the men are fit and strong. This represents how they wanted to go into war.
