Ammunition Spacers Used in the Gulf War
The first shipment of spacers was packed and flown to ground forces in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. Two types of ammunition issued for use in the M109 self-propelled howitzer were too short to safely and quietly stow in its bustle rack. Rock Island Arsenal designed two types of spacers for the ammunition. Initial production was begun only two weeks after the arsenal was assigned the project. A total of 17,000 spacers were produced during the Gulf War. -

CMTH production begins
Production of the Contact Maintenance Truck (Heavy) or CMTH began in 1996. A Humvee is converted into a mobile repair shop capable of repairing and maintaining tactical wheeled and tracked vehicles. The conversion is performed at workstations in Building 230. -
Forward Repair System production begins
Production of the Forward Repair System or FRS began at Rock Island Arsenal in June 2000. The FRS is a mobile, self-contained repair shop designed to perform field-level repair and maintenance on major combat systems like the Abrams tank and Bradley Fighting Vehicle. The rollout ceremony for the first FRS was held in September 2000. -
