  • Thirty Years War

    Thirty Years War
    The thirty years war was a war in central Europe fought from 1618 to 1648. The war came to be due to religious tension between three major religions. Ending the war, The Treaty of Westphalia was signed, which shifted the balance of power of European countries. With the end of this war, Sweden gained control of the Baltic territories, and the Netherlands gained independence from Spain.
  • English Bill of Rights

    The English bill of rights was signed by William III and Mary II after king James II was overthrown. The document changed how the government operated, and helped give rights to citizens. The Bill of Rights limited the power of kings and queens, helped strengthen the freedom of speech, and helped better the democratic election.
  • War of Austrian Succession

    War of Austrian Succession
    The war of Austrian Succession began in 1740 after Prussia invaded the province of Silesia, where Maria Theresa was not ready to fight a war. The war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle in 1748, which confirmed Maria Theresa as Archduchess of Austria and Queen of Hungary.
  • American Revolution

    American Revolution
    The American Revolution began with the establishment of the stamp act. American colonists did not like having to pay taxes to a government which they have no representation in. One major event during this war was the Boston massacre, a protest which escalated to large amounts of violence and deaths. The revolution ended with american colonists getting a part in the government, leaving the government in debt. The colonists convinced congress to write up a new constitution.

    The stamp act was created to impose a tax on the British colonies in America. The act caused colonists to pay large taxes for many printed materials like magazines, news papers, legal documents, etc. This tax was not appreciated by american colonists, and was heavily protested. The act eventually led to the American revolution.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    The Treaty of Paris was a document signed by representatives of Great Britain and America. The signing of the Treaty of Paris ended the American Revolution and set limits to Great Britain's hold on the United States of America.
  • French Revolution

    French Revolution
    The French Revolution began with economic stress caused by new taxes (an attempt at paying off the french government's war debts), and the previous years of poor crop harvests, which caused an increase in the prices of bread. Throughout the french revolution, there were many slaves freed, and many french citizens sent to be beheaded by guillotine. The revolution ended with France coming under the control of Napoleon. The french revolution led to "The Reign of Terror".

    The tennis court oath was a vow taken by representatives of the three estates, deciding that they would not leave until a new constitution was written for the french people. This oath played an important role in the french revolution, strengthening the idea of a revolt.

    Storming of the Bastile
    The Storming of the Bastille was an act of defiance that took place during the French Revolution which caused the start of the violence between revolutionaries and soldiers of the monarch. The storming of the Bastille was a turning point in the revolution, encouraging more people to fight back against the monarch.
  • Reign of Terror

    Reign of Terror
    The reign of terror was a period of time during the french revolution, following the creation of the french republic, in which there were several large massacres and public executions as a response to the revolution. Many lives were lost during this period, along with heavy economic damage.
