Revolutionary times in the Colonies By:Nathan Period 7 By 18ndement Apr 19, 1775 The Battle of Lexington and Concord On April 19,1775 seven hundred british soliders approached Lexington and were confronted by eighty minutemen. The minutemen had been preapared for the British arrival because the had been signaled by the spies for the colonies.They signaled them with lights in the Old Church. In Lexington that night the war began with 'The Shot Heard the Around the World', but no ones can be sure who shot first. Period: Apr 19, 1775 to Sep 3, 1783 Important battles in the revolution of the colonies -Lexington and Concord -Breed's Hill -Battle for New York -Battle of Trenton -Valley Forge -Battle of Saratoga -Siege of Charlston -Battle of Yorktown -Battle of Yorktown Jun 17, 1775 The Battle of Breed's Hill On Jun 13, 1775 the Colonist received information that the British were planning on occupying the nearby hills. The colonist decided they would secretly travel to the Bunker and Breed's Hills. the British discovered them and led an attack. It resulted in more casualties for the british than for the colonist. Aug 27, 1776 The Battle for New York The British arrived in New York with 22,000 soliders on August 27, 1776. This was the first battle since the colonies officially declared independence. The result was not a good one. The British won with very little casualties compared to the Colonies. Dec 26, 1776 The Battle of Trenton George Washington had not achievied very much as of late so many of his men were not likely to re-enlist after their one-year term ended. So he decided to lead his men acrost the Delaware river Christmas night 1776. Then the next morning he lead an attack againt the the German mercenaries that were occupying Trenton for the British. The Hessians had no idea what hit them. Sep 19, 1777 Battle of Saratoga General John Burgoyne moved his men south to take control of the upper Hudson River. The first battle took place on September 19, 1777. Eventually Burgoyne lost he had become outnumbered 3 to 1 and lost 1,000 men. Dec 19, 1777 Valley Forge In the cold December weather only one of every three men of Washington's troops have shoes. They are poorly equipped when they enter Valley Forge on December 19, 1777. Even though there was the British weren't there they fought a vicious battle against an unexpected enemy, diesease and hunger. But they pull through and all become well trained thank to the efforts of Baron Friedrich von Steuben. Mar 29, 1780 Siege of Charlston Sir Henry Clinton was ordered to take his men numbering 8,500 and meet with Lord Rawdon and his men bringing the total to about 14,000 men. Their goal, Charlston. The Colonies losst the city and 5,000 men, a drastic blow. the British had only suffered minor casualties. Sep 28, 1780 Battle of Yorktown This is the final battle that ended on October 19, 1781. With the help of the French the Colonies outnumbered the British 2 to 1. The Colonies had next to no casualties compared to the British. When the British finally surrendered they refused to give George Washington their sword and tried to give it to the French instead but the french man would not accept.
