  • Treaty of Paris 1763

    Treaty of Paris 1763
    The treaty of paris was a result of the French and Indian war. The British and Colonists had defeated the French and Natives. This treaty was signed in france and agreeded to give the eastern side of the United States to Britain, up to the misissippi river. This land amount stretched from florida to parts of Canada.

    Proclimation of 1763
    The proclimation of 1763 was put in place by Britain in order to stop colonial expansion past the appilacian mountains. The British did not want the colonists to settle too far inland because many natives lifed there and Britain did not want to be bothered with helping in any potential fights.

    The sugar act was put in place to charge a tax on sugar which was inported, to be payed by merchants. This was put in place to affect the price of product coming from the west indies.

    The stamp act was an act put in place by britain in which the colonies were made to pay a tax on stamps for all legal documents. This affected a lot of people and needed to be payed in gold or silver, as opposed to paper money.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    Initiated by Charles Townshend, the townshend acts were a series of acts which pere put in place as compensation for the removal of the stamp act. The british made acts within this where soldiers could be quartered in the colonies, and colonists had to pay taxes on higher end imports such as fine diningware and glass.

    Boston Massacre
    The boston massacre was seen as a horrible act to the colonists, however they were the ones who had originally provoked the british soldiers. Colonists would throw balls of snow, stones, and sticks at british soldiers. After enough time, the british soldiers responded with violence.

    The boston tea party was an act where colonial rebels chose to storm onto british trade ships in order to dump chests of tea overboard into the harbor. This plan was made to be a way of showing the british that the colonies did not tolerate the taxes which were being placed upon them.

    1st Continental Congress

    The first Continental Congress met in Carpenter's Hall in Philadelphia, from September 5, to October 26, 1774. The purpose of the meetings which occured in the first continential was do discuss important information about the country such as unifacation. The plan of union was discussed as was there being a single leader put in place. The continential congress wanted to express their discontent to england and if no desirable response was recived, they would meet again in a following year.

    Intolerable Acts
    The intolerable acts, or the Coercive acts as they were known as by the british, were put in place after the boston tea party as a restriction to the colonies. They had to pay for the tea they spilled, and would commonly express rage to the collector.The main effects of these acts were the removal of goverment power in massachsetts, and the quartering of soldiers, especially in costal cities. New england lost a lot of goverment representation because the were banned from having formal meetings.

    Battles of Lexington and Concord
    The battles of lexington and concord were the begging of the revolution, essentially. They were fought on a morning while britain was looking for wapons belinging to the colonists. They defeated colonial malitias at lexingon but were driven off by the colonists upon reaching concord.

    Second Continential Congress

    The second continential congress was a long lasting congress assembly which made important choices for the country, such as the beginning of paper money printing. Most importantly, the second continential congress formulated the Olive Branch Petition, which was a collection of requests to the king of england. The document was immediately declined by the king, before even being read. This was a large trigger in the war.
  • Bunker Hill

    Bunker Hill
    The battle of bunker hill was a great startegic move by the colonists. They had obtainted the high ground and were able to force british soldiers into a poor position. They had a very a limited amount of supplies, however. The colonists were able to hold of a tremendous amount of british soldiers while losing very few of their own. Despide this, the battle was considered a british victory as the colonists ran out of supplues quite quickly and had to relinquish the hill to the british.

    The olive branch petition was a collection of requests to the king, it was drafted by john dickinson and approved by the second continential congress. The petition was submitted to king george on July 8th, 1775. The petiton was immediately declined by the king without even having read it.

    Common Sense - Thomas Paine (Published)
    Common sense was a pamphlet based document written by Thomas Paine, it was published on January 10th, 1776. This pamphlet was written for the colonists and distributed throughout the colonies in order to spark revolutionary interest. The pamphlet inspired people's desire to fight for freedom from britain.

    The declaration of independence was a document written to england as a final straw. It expressed the colonial feeling towards britain, and what the colonists were going to do about it. They did not want to have ties with britain any longer. The declaration included many examples of what the colonists belived to be oppresion by briatin. This was seen by the king as an act as treason and he wished to go to war with the colonists to reclaim them as a british territory.

    Thomas paine's "Crisis" is read to soldiers prior to battle in attempts to raise morale in the colonial army after an unfortunate series of defeats. Crisis seemed to be a great sucess as many colonists found a great new hope. Because of the great sucess, many people wanted to continue fighting.

    Trenton and Princeton
    Desprate times called for desprate measures. Washington had a plan to attack enemy camps on Christmas night. They chose to do this in order to have a great surprise on their enemy. Over 1400 mercinaries were captured in the event and many americans gained hope/joined the army.
  • Saratoga

    One of the most signifigant battles, britain had an original plan to cut of american supply lines, however things did not go according to plans. The original idea was to take out the new englan states, where most of the revolutionary flame was coming from. The british were forced into a surrender, this was one of the colonies' larges vicories.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    The battle of yorktown was held on the viginia coast and the inital situation was the british waiting for goods. The french and the colonists trapped the british in the port, nowhere to run. The colonists used artillery to force britain into an even worse position. Britain is forced to surrender, war is basically over at this point.

    The treaty of paris, 1783 was the treaty that oficially ended the american revolutionary war. The treaty was signed by representatives of both siedes in paris. This treaty gave a large amount of land to the united states/colonies and was very important to colonial growth.
