During Lamar's presidency, the village of Waterloo was changed to the city of Austin and became the Capital of Texas in honor of Stephen F. Austin. -
Battle of the Neches
President Lamar announced a war on the Cherokee Indians. The Cherokee evacuated but were attacked on July 15th. Texas troop defeated the Cherokees and their allies on the Neches River. -
